Yes Cenap, and take a big doggy bag.

N.N. You should see the Central Reservation of most UK motorways, bits of cars , and plastic bottles full of Lorry Drivers P--s. and loads of rubbish of every description, most of the rubbish on our beeches is washed up, yes It is appaling how the locals leave there discarded rubbish and beer bottles etc.

Hopefully the next generation will have learned how not to discard litter, but remember when we where kids, dog mess all over the pavements, rubbish and litter,

Turvutola opposite Severners has a great meze, the food just keeps coming. Main course is excellent but you need a doggy bag if you are not a big eater. Great food, great atmosphere and very obliging staff.

For smart go with Archway, after that Cenap bit more rustic Tervetuloa. Blue Door has gone down since the German man and His TC wife left last time we went we were not happy.

Archway for style and class and a really good meal, Buffavento for more authentic surrounds and yet another really good meal - on the plus side of Buffavento is that it is far enough out of Girne to be more attractive to the local population so expect it to get busy in the evening.

Selection of meze depends on time of year and what is in season but most are good and all are different - seafood meze not to be missed and rare to find a good one so I will be off to Sirin Yali now I know it is there!

Ignore Nick, he has rubbish on the brain, that's why he moved away then came back, just could not live without it.

Are you sure that your friends will like meze? I remember the first time we came on holiday here some 16 years ago, on our first evening we had no idea were to go and as we were staying in Lapta, the first place we found was Cenap. We ordered a meze and lamb in the oven. The waiter enquired "was it full meze?" to which we replied in the affirmative. Well first we had to move from a table for two to a table for six and it never stopped coming. In the end we had to say "No more - No more and please cancel the lamb". Quite an experience for the uninitiated!!

On the East side in the village of Ozankoy you will find Hassan's Rose Garden. They do a lovely fresh home made Meze. Try it Before ordering the main course! Hassan's Pirzolla ( Lamb Chops ) are mouth watering.

It is about time the mods banned you for "adding nothing to the forum " .Others have been banned for it ! And as Kav says , why don't you start a thread off about the negatives in North Cyprus ? Surely you can type with just your left hand Nick !!

Thank you for all of your suggestions! I do not mind people posting out of the topic comments at all - it keeps the thread alive! Another question: We visited Bellapais last week and luckily we found "Gardens of Irini" opened (been there couple of times before but this place was always shut). We entered to have a drink and were totaly enchanted. Has anybody tried to have a dinner there? What is the food like there?

Some friends of mine went to the new restaurant, that was the old Jessics, a couple of nght's ago, and said they had a beautiful meal, including a full meze which was delicious. I don't know the name of the restautant, but I'm, sure someone on here will know it, but coming from Girne, it's on the Lapta strip, on the right hand side, before Celebrity. Loads of lovely flowers in the front.

Local friend and his wife, both old friends, took me and my son to The Address

and I was impressed with the meze, and the whole meal there. Lovely little

puffy breads, and more hot and cold meze than you could eat (even my son

who has a good appetite!) Surprised it isn't mentioned more, and it overlooks

the sea. Like Niazis too.

Linda,

I've never had mezes that were not fresh here. Maybe you eat in the wrong places.

Yes you do get some tired looking garnishes (served on a main course at some places - why? beats me) and if I was unhappy I would make it clear that it is not acceptable...

However, to blame all establishments for the piss-poor one you managed is a bit rich. If you were the manager then surely the goings on in the kitchen affecting what is served to customers is your responsibility!

I tend to agree with Moxie Mess 49. Meze is OK once in a while and although I do not know of it's origins, I have always thought of it as leftovers rehashed. Many places nowadays specialise in meze and make the dishes from new material and they look and taste good but not too often for me thanks. In addition to that comment, I always take what others say, with a pinch of salt. How often have I been to a restaurant that someone has sung the praises of and been terribly disappointed. What suits one does not suit all. Cenap, Trevetuloa and Archway are probably the best that I've been to for meze but don't go with a Turkish speaker as they might tell you what you are about to eat. Eyes and brains come high on the menu!!

Moxie message 59

Yes this is an open forum for people to express opinions, thats what you done when you said you thought meze was overpriced and over rated, thats fair enough, its what you said in the other postings that meze was leftovers etc and the way that the hotel you were manager of served meze.

That does not mean that every establishment that serves meze is like where you worked, I had many mezes and most were delicious, so why brand all mezes the same.

I have have a bad meal in nearly every type of restaurant you can think of, but I do not come out and say never eat Indian, or Chinese, or Italian ever again.

Judge each establishment by the quality of the food and service they provide, thats being fair and open minded, not a follower!

Moxie any hotel that serves up leftovers as a meze is piss-poor. If you were the manager then the owner should have sacked you for letting it happen... did he?

The only leftovers that get served go to the staff, that's probably why Moxie is turned off. They won't have the staff taking the rich pickings.

Meze is a great way to introduce people to Turkish food. Best Meze I had was years ago in little Arifs in Girne and full Kebab.

I one of those people who would try absolutely anything once, and to be honest after trying things once there's not much I wouldn't try a second time. As your west of Kyrenia then I concur that Cenap is an experience of a traditional Meze that's hard to beat, but if your freinds are at all picky, then I wouldn't choose it. If theyre adventurous fine, otherwise I'd plum safe and go to Niazis for a great selection and none to challenging on the tastebuds.

Both serve more than anyone could eat in a sitting either way but niazis is a bit more forgiving to the fussy palate, and guests do seem to enjoy the drama of the indoor barby.

Message 59 ......Nick you are so sad ! Have you ever wondered why the interest in the Mongers dried up ? You are yesterdays news mate ! Life is too short ! Give it up and praise the life you have in Thailand ! Don't be bitter about North Cyprus ! You are starting to sound like an insurance salesman !!

Meze restaurant in Gonyeli is the best place to eat meze. It about 15 mins from Girne in the centre of Gonyeli.

Blimey Moxie, 15 days to reply, I hope you were better as a manager!

If the hotel's owner told you it was OK for leftovers to be served up as mezes you should have walked out in disgust. As the manager of a hotel I would not let the owner make poor decisions affecting the potential well-being of guests as it is highly likely they could be made unwell. It is my contention that no matter how 'luxurious' the hotel's furnishings were, this practice marks it down as piss-poor in the catering world... I guess we'll have to agree to differ on that point.

If you are the manager then it is your job to manage and prevent errors of judgement of this nature no matter who makes them. I bet you if a guest sued, the owner would have blamed you as the manager!

Here, I've never seen mezes made up from left-overs. Which was your contention was it not? They are made up from totally distinct food groups not used in other parts of the menu so they would not be left-over main courses.

Meze is not made up from leftovers.... I agree with you. Meze is distinct foods. Anyone that beleives otherwise has no idea of the concept and is simply trying to fool people

Moxie, you are the one casting aspersions about the food used for mezes patently false accusations here so why make them?

You have been weighed and you have been measured and you have been found wanting. I suggest you move on.. and don't stop.

Blimey some people!

I had heard lots about Cenap and so decided to go there Friday night. Unfortunately its closed between June 19th and July 3rd - reopening July 4th. Looks like I will have to wait for my next visit to try my 'leftovers'.
