We have some friends coming over soon with there children, one of which has been recently diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Therefore just in case there is an emergency etc while he is here does anybody know of a Doctor in the Alsancak / Kyrenia area who specialises in Diabetes in children. Or should they go directly to the hospital in Kyrenia?.

All advise greatly welcome, thank you.

In case of emergency and the fact that a lot of Dr's don't work Saturday afternoon and Sunday best to take the child to Girne Hospital. Just make sure they bring plenty of insulin with them as it is not very easy to source here, and some of the insulins are not available at all! Also test kit and strips.

Just remember that a lot of fresh cooked food in NC does not contain the same amount of Carbs as British food, bread, pitta and kebab naan all seem to have less sugar content which is good but can play havoc when trying to balance insulin intake.

Plenty of testing and a few cartons of orange juice on hand in case of Hypo,s

Orange juice breaks down in the stomach quickly and enters the blood within a very short time much quicker than chocolate or bicuits.

My son is diabetic and whenever he comes here during the very hot weather it plays havoc with his sugar levels.

I would advise just be prepared understand what to do about hypos and be sensible and all will be well.

When in doubt - test - so as another had said bring plenty of test strips - have a great time.
