I live in Karsiyaka and we currently have a small monkey being attacked by crows up in our pine trees. My husband is trying to coax it down with some fruit. It must be somebodies pet so if you have lost a monkey or know of anybody in the Karsiyaka area that has a pet monkey please get in touch urgently.

Is there a local zoo (don't know the area) nearby? Or a local vet - who would probably know the owner, probably look after the animal, or the local Mayor would probably know who owns it........or local pet food stores where its foodstuff is maybe bought - poor thing, hope it comes down soon......

I have sent pics to Mel. It seems quite happy now that the crows have left it alone. It has been down to the pool for a paddle and a drink and has had quite a bit of fruit. I will give Petcross a call and see if they know anything.

Get an empty beer bottle. Put a handful of nuts in it. Tie a piece of string round the neck. Tie the string to the tree branch. When the monkey puts his hand in to get some nuts he will grab a fist-full and won't be able to pull his hand back out.

He is too greedy to let go and you can then grab him.

I don't think its a Langur monkey because it only has whiskers on the side of the face. Looks more like a Vervet monkey. She is very happy exploring and taking fruit pieces from a bowl.

Thanks for posting the video David.

It looks similar to the one from Starlings, last seen at the Petshop at the bottom of Bellapais Hill, I'll pop along and see if he has the buyers details.

Monkeys are not easy pets to look after and can bite hard if provoked. Perhaps someone took it on/bought it, thinking it was cute and then found out it wasn't so cute after all. They may have travelled quite a long way in order to find somehwere to dump it? Just a thought.

There was a monkey in a cage in a hotel in Lapta. The directions are:

Turn right to go to Sunset (the turning opposite the Gardens of Babel turning).

There are some Sante Fe apartments on the left and a hotel sign on the right. The cage was in the grounds of the hotel.

I suspect it came from there as I saw it not long ago.

Good luck

Twinks.

I'd leave the primate alone, leave fruit & fresh water for it and let it live free in your tree garden environment. I googled 'monkey type pictures' and it looks like a Patas to me.

J & J (21) Not a vervet (we've seen those for real & in close up).

Richard (44) Don't think its a Patas either. We like a bit of monkey business and our instincts are saying this specimen is possibly from Asia but quite what, heaven knows. Well, the owner certainly will once he/she/they are located. It looks like its in good health and thats the main thing and until the right people come to claim it, Richard (44) has given sound advice. Also, by providing food/water it may be tempted to stay put in your garden rather than disappearing before whoever owns it can try and collect it. Good luck!

Thanks

Msg 1

You seem to have a lovely garden as your video shows. Why not leave the beast be if he/she seems happy? Fruit is for no money as is water. Better were it is rather tethered by a collar and cadged!

Hi people, thanks for your interest. Well Mabel the Monkey stayed put for about 5 hours today. We left her fruit and nuts which she ate at her own convenience and she was more than happy to drink out of the pool. At about 1pm she shot off out of the garden following along the tree line. My husband tried to coax her back because the crows were having a go once again but she seemed more than happy. We have been out this afternoon and it is now dark so not sure where she is. We are more than happy for her to stay in the trees and we will continue to feed her if she is still around tomorrow. Cannot stand the thought of her being kept in a cage so haven't made any effort to find out who she belongs to. Will keep you all updated.

ANYONE thinking of touching this monkey, should check out the above link first. Even before I found the link (especially for the likes of Brinsley)! I was with Moxie Msg 51. Anyone who doesn't live in a cupboard, would immediately know NEVER to touch a wild animal, the clue is in WILD!!!!!!!!!! In the same way that 'domesticated' dogs can turn without provocation, a monkey has 100% more probability of carrying rabies, or turning on a human - or indeed, kill a baby or toddler. It is beyond my comprehension that anyone would consider touching it, even if it has had its teeth removed, the damage it could do, could be life threatening. I wouldn't even get close enough to offer it fruit, or anything else...in case it leaps upon you. I would hope you call the local Vet and ask for someone to catch it/restrain it - until its owners can be found - otherwise to dispatch it - for it, and everyone elses - sake.

I agree with Msg 53, but also with Msg 52- yes, monkeys are potentially vicious, and will probably kill pets if their survival depends on it.

But if it's been caged, my soft side says it should run free.

Monkeys are highly intelligent mammals, so at least there's no chance it will be posting on this forum.

Unless, of course he /she bought a villa here.

As much as cute, exciting to have monkey in back garden or tree. Isn't time to report to officials,no one knows reason for monkey being out there probably escaped but you have to look at the other side of the coin.If that monkey attack any young child for any reason who is going to pick up the pieces. Do the right thing and report to police etc. Don't let it to be a problem.
