Came downstairs this morning and found a perfect Tom & Jerry hole in the bottom of our kitchen unit. Wife doing her/my head in about it and wants the mouse terminated with extreme prejudice.

Q. Best place to buy a mousetrap? - don't think poison would be a good idea with dogs in the house.

pc4854, why does the cat have to be from Hungary, wouldn't a local moggy be as good?

be thankful it is not the monkey in your kitchen! now that would be a big hole in the bottom of your kitchen unit.

Hungarian cats are noted hunters unlike the local equivalent here - my lovely pussycat brought one in and in a moment of inattention, he let it go. It dived into a kitchen cupboard, so I thought I'll put his food dish in there, then when he snacks he might see the mouse and catch it again. No good I had to deal with it myself in the end. Thanks chaps for noting the typing error!

Tip for the trap! Use melted chocolate or nuttella (other chocolate/nut spreads available). You will be sure to get the mouse if it visits as it has to press down on the . Before using this method I sometimes found the bait gone but no mouse. Melted chocolate is my prefered way.

Chocolate is fine, but I have found that a piece of bacon rind, firmly tied to the operating lever works well.

Update.

Got a daddy of a mousetrap from Yapi Market. All steel and bristling with spikes. Humane? Not on your Nelly!

Put a bit of cheese on it (I am a bit of a traditionalist) and armed it before going to bed.

Jerry turned out to be Roland and he won't be bothering us again.

RIP Roland.
