When I see the pictures on tv I cant help but see how close Syria is to Cyprus. I just wondered if the Syria/Cyprus ferry was full of Syrians who have decided to call it a day. (If indeed it is still running)

Re: Msg 3,

I read about a special EU ( I know, I shouldn't mention IT ) consultation on the refugees from the Middle East, Africa and Syria in particular, where RoC and Italy said that they were swamped; the row ensued. TRNC wasn't mentioned for obvious reasons.

You said that word Clarissa. Now I suggest you go and wash your mouth out with soap

Refugees from the Middle east is a growing problem. Italy decided to use the schengen agreement to its advantage by issuing Tunisians with visas and pointing them in the direction of Paris.

Message 5. And on reaching Paris they were told about all the great benifits to be had in the UK.

Turkey have been receiving a lot of refugees from Syria and have been accepting them according to reports in the world press.

At what point does the United Nations decide Syria looks a bit like the situation in Libya?

1,300 civilians have now been killed - Human rights group estimate

10,000 people arrested - Human rights group estimate

500 security personnel dead - government figure

I guess all these figures are dubious

Yeah right you are rowlo, they have done such a fantastic job in Afghanistan, Iraq and now Libya that they will then move on to Syria. Where do you suggest next Iran?

world leaders are scared witless of any post-baathist syria:

think giant lebanese civil war with chemical and bio weapons

meanwhile, libya seems to not want to be put to bed, in spite

of being read a story and having drunk a cup of cocoa

"moving on" to syria would not attract universal international

support even of the most grudging variety and militarily a

fractured and dangerous failed syria would be a nightmare

there may be a role for un/eu forces when the dust settles,

if it ever does

and to help the population rebuild, if any of them survive

We are still a long way from the Hama massacre in 1980 where 20,000 people were estimated to have died in Syria.

I don't recall any foreign intervention in this internal dispute. Its interesting how things have changed.
