Looking at a long term rental in February and need advice as to having a private pool or communal pool on a complex, with regards to cost or any other problems

Make sure you ask on here whether the communal pool is in good care and condition. Some of the communal sites have problems agreeing on who and how much should be paid and the first casualty appears to be the pool.

Thanks Groucho

Have heard stories of some sites where some don't pay so will check before we rent but was also thinking of the extra cost regarding a private pool.

At least if have private pool you know who's swimming in it and you won't be swimming in someone else's bath water! or worse !!

Was at a site today,

noticed a bather checking the water with a Test Strip for Pools..

https://www.softubspas.co.uk/pool-chemicals-test-strips-c-3_8.html?gclid=CJ2Lzv3ErqkCFUIPfAodcSJeLw

Once they'd checked it, lifted their towels and made their way to another pool :-(

Hi sparky71,

Both myself & a friend have picked up ear infections from bathing in the sea!

Not a nice thing to get on your hols :-(

Better safe than sorry

Happy swimming.

Trouble is... once you've booked it's a bit late to go testing the water.

We have experienced both private and communal pools and cost wise it is cheaper to have a communal pool.

However, as said above and in many other posts, there is always a risk of some not paying or sites not well looked after but they are not all like that. We live in a lovely small complex (rented) and the site and pool are both cleaned regularly and are beautifully maintained.

Unless you know how to maintain a pool yourself, whether you go for a communal or private pool, you are still relying on someone else to clean it and who is to say that they are cleaning it correctly? Unless of course it turns green or there is algae down the sides.

We have now gone for a communal pool simply because of the cost and unless you use a private pool regularly then each time you leap in for a swim it is very very costly.

A private pool will obviously give you privacy.

Like the idea of a private pool but can see the downside of maintaining it and running the pump etc all year only to use it for 3/4 months,so hopefully we find a good site with a communal pool when we finally move over in February

Thanks,Melvin

We share a nice pool with 3 other villa's no problem, total costs per month including elec, water and cleaning £20.00 each per month in winter period. High season £30.00 per month.

I can understand problems are large communal pools.
