I'm intrested in getting Russian and English satelite TV. What is the best I can get here, what channels?

Have found a lot of info about English channels on the forum. No so much in Russian. We are intrested in good service with warranty . Any suggetions who can do it the best with nice price? Don' t want any intermediators though. Will be a bonus if the person doing it is able to speak Russian. Will appreciate any suggestions..

hotbird 6/7, requires a 90cm dish and cheap satbox

this will get you channel 1 rossiya

rather similar mix to bbc1, well not really, and RTR

...but ntv etc needs viewing cards which are quite expensive

bbc prime needs a £100 yearly card

on sirius, 90cm dish, there were five free ukrainian channels

including enter film, but the programming is not sensational

for a few american soaps and some films and dramas,

there is nilesat, needing a similar dish,

us content mostly from the gulf and mbc

both the above offer bbc world, free, newsy and not very exciting

go to 1.8m and there is a a lot of stuff from one of the astras, but

you must rent a skycard, good for sports and general but no bbc

4.2 meter dish properly set up will receive more or less

all the freeview stuff on the uk standard astra, for around £3k

up to 1.8m tektan are not bad, in the town: but for 4.2m iceman

there is local cable, and you "can" watch online if you get a vpn

sat tv guide.

can I just add that tektan charge about £150

for either hotbird or nilesat including the bits,

and to have the both on one dish using a dual lnb

can only be done

if they are within about 10 degrees of each other,

see lyngsat online for all satellites,

channels and footprint maps

hope this helps, maria

Now that is irony, a poster with an Italian handle asking for English and Russian TV being answered in Cyrillic by someone called Frenchman.

Anyway, Andre is normally pretty accurate with his statements so if he says it is possible to get Russian channels and English on 1 LNB I am impressed, I bought a motorised dish and my wife can tune to 3 different satellite positions to get I think every free to air channel for Russia available and there are a bunch of the English channels as well.

I would advise speaking to a sat dish installer, they are all roughly the same price for free to air installations within limits of the equipment they supply. I used Acip who has been excellent, I would also try washerman who seems to have great customer service as does Acip.

proger,

bbc world, boring news channel goes out on many satellites hb7, nsat etc etc

of course a steerable dish is the "business" and I would have been sceptical

about multi *lnb's mounted on a small fixed dish

(all canted differently like the eyes of the late marty feldman), it must be set-up

competently and I said the satellites "must" be within a few degrees of each other

a lady I know in the london area has such an installation on a single 60cm dish,

and demonstated perfect reception from uk, russian and georgian channels...

ukrainian bloke did the work and not at all expensive, from london russian paper

the problem as someone has pointed out earlier is most of the free channels easily

accessible from cyprus are crap, although russia's channel one is the most varied

oh well, there's always the old dvd player...

* the lnb's are mounted on a horizontal bracket and each is individually adjusted

Hi calibri1

you've had some sound advice from folks who've worn the teeshirt

Russian - IF you don't want to go the motorised route you can get a 1m - dish worth it for when it rains - and point it at 11 Degrees East to get Hotbird at 13 E and Eurobird at 9 Degrees

You'll get the RTRs, First Channels, on Hobird for free and a package HD platforma ru on Eurobird 9

You don't HAVE to take the HD channels package and you'll still get NTV, REN TV,TNT, Mz TV, and many more - you need to get a special receiver - as the encryption method is built in and separate devices t that can be plugged in to most sat receivers aren't generally available - unless you subscribe to Penthouse TV !

http://platformahd.ru/platformadv.htm

UK TV..

You CAN use a 1.8m and get ITV by buying a freesat from SKY card - aaprox 20 GBP - but subscribing - and paying the HD premium gets you stronger signals..

Sadly, BBC 1-4 are only available on a 4.2m... but many sporting events ( e.g F1, Wimbledon, etc ) and concerts are available via the red ( interactive) button on BBC News 24 - which IS available on a well installed 1.8m - no subscription necessary.

@Mods

The above poster msg 10

appears to have a 'virus'

1/repeatedly posting links to libellous vids on you tube - which get removed - only to reappear

2/ posting a contact address for a domain I own - it's in the public domain - so not a problem ! - but the intent is clearly 'naughty' - *I* have not posted any info about this poster's company - I'm just not sure why they have posted MINE !

1/ ErolZ is a TC

2/ Why would I ask him to do something I could do myself

IF you note.. Washerman has posted MY contact details - to make some sort of failed point re legality - several times.. have I asked for their removal .. ?!

such 'silliness'

I think we need to give the members a holiday and have suggested that they ban ( for a month ) anyone posting 'naughty' links or personal info

I've included myself - as if I respond to correct fibs - I simply seem to keep the flames burning ! :(

Those wanting the free vpn can get updates via my email.

I'm sorry - think you mean - don't respond to fibs, and boasts of companies making claims I KNOW they can't substantiate...

.and if you don't - we'll try to 'annoy' you by posting lots of fibs:(
