Has anyone else noticed that the speedcam by the peace memorial at Escape Beach flashes at 60kph?..... it's in a 65kph limit . Has anyone received a fine yet?

The cameras here do not flash they are digital and need not to flashs and yes this camera operates at 68kph. They give 3kph for speedometers not being calibrated. To find out if you gıot caught go to Girne Polıce station.

Thanks Rocker - that's helpful. Could you perhaps tell me why my (expensive) digital camera has a flash on it when it seems it's clearly not needed?..... should I write to Canon or will you? ;0)

The cameras here are "GATSO" make, so when they are set and working they do flash.

They can only take up to 400 photos before being re loaded. This is why they do not work all of the time. On a busy road the film would be full in one day.

Theses cameras take a photo of the rear of the vehicle as to flash at on coming traffic could cause an accident.

I have not seen a digital camera as yet but there may be a few.

These cameras can take unlimited photos which can be downloaded.

The cameras take a photo of the front of the vehicle using infa red.

A police officer here told me they give a 15% leeway on the speed limit.

Hi Billy I agree with you but the Police Commisionrer of Lefkoşa was sure they are all digital and do not flash.. But I have seen them flash. I was told some 6 months ago. Maybe some have and some have not been Changed.

Well said Skogsy, driving to Ercan last week at 4am I was keeping to the speed limit and many cars raced passed me, felt as though I was parked! scary!

billy the main road from malpas hotel to the harbour has truvelo type camers which do look like gatsos but are quite diffrent



truvelo type use a infra red flash invisible to the driver unlike the gats type which is a high power strobe type flash which is highly visible.



truvelo type camers use sensors in the road to detect speed unlike gatsos which use road markings, white lines to calculate the cars speed these type are not digital camers as they both use camera film unlike specs camers in gb which are digital and do not need camera film as the are directly linked to a data base which automaticaly process the notice of a fine an points direct to the cars resgistered owner.



just to let you know there are more than one make of camera being used in nc and you maybe not aware when you have been captured by these horrid things as not all of them flash.

But what I find intensely frustrating is the fact that most drivers slow down to 10 or more UNDER the limit posted, so if it's a 65mph sign, they crawl through at 50 or 55?? In Lapta for example, its 50 and we're frequently ambling through at 40 or so!!!

With the increase in traffic in the TRNC over the last few years its getting harder and harder to speed, gone are the days when it was more like a race track--mores the pity.
