Just the usual daily mail reactionary claptrap as far as I can see. So there was a punch up at ascot ladies day, big deal. As for 'this is not about class', maybe not but to me the whole article reeks of snobbery of the worst kind. As for Helen Wood being there why should she not go there ? She looks prefectly respectable in the picture shown. Why the hell should she hide away in shame as the author seems to think ?

I think this is more to do with alcohol and what it is doing to the UK society, people cant seem to get drink anymore without fighting and worse.

erolz I think the point is that Ascot is owned by The Queen and Ascot week is very much about her enjoying her favorite pastime. It's a shame the drunken yobs have no manners but things have gone well past that now. They are after all only allowed in because they contribute to the upkeep. The good news is that the part they are allowed into is separated from the Members and the Royal enclosures by a high wall topped with barbed wire.

Clarissa2; as I have said in other recent posts, it's all about standards and it's not only here in the trnc that they are lacking. I'm not sure there was ever a golden age but it sure as hell isn't now.

Continental medeivel chroniclers expressed complete bafflement of the inability of the English peasantry to have a drink without resorting to violence and causing riots. It has been a problem for hundreds of years.

Great photo, hooray henry sticking the boot in. The affects of poor quality cocaine and what its been cut with and paranoia brought on by poor quality sniff and of course the good old alcohol. Looked like a great day out for them. Im sure those in the photo shall cut that out of the newspaper and it will be stuck to the office filing cabinet for many years.

Clarrisa2 message 10, just my personal view but I do not think the article is about behaving in a civil manner I think it takes a random event (punch up at ascot ladies day) as an excuse for the writter to vent their prejudice and express their distain about 'people of a lower standard'. The pot shots at women with tatoos is not about behaving in a civil manner, its an expresion of prejudice against a 'certain type' of person. Nor are the attacks on Helen Wood anything to do with behaving in a civil manner that I can see. The woman who writes this has something of a reputation, just try googling her if in doubt.

Re : Msg 19, erolz, Oh, we are moving fast: not to condone yobbish behavior was at first snobbery, now it is an expression of prejudice. BTW, I don't need to google it, I know who Amanda Platell is, like everyone in the UK who reads press or watches TV.

It's a sign of the times that C44 people agree with a report in - of all UK 'news papers' - the Daily Mail. And for this member of the 0-gang on this board, please read and try to understand this quote from the article (msg 1): "The fact is, when you lower your standards, you get a lower standard of person. That applies not just to Ascot but to society in general."

Clarrisa2 as I said its just my opinion, nothing more. Though I do note you seemed not to have addressed my points. What do women with tattoes say about civil behaviour or are you of the opinion if someone has a tattoo they must be uncivil as well ? Is that not preujdice, be it her view or both of yours ? What does the attendance of Helen Wood have to do with civil behaviour ? I certainly do not condone yobbish behaviour, but she talks about tattoos Helen Wood. Just my own opinion.

Tell your parents that you used their computer again when you should have been in bed? "Hahahahahahaha" - which grown-up would dare to type this time and time again?! | message 22. could this be the answer. Loneliness is an experience that is commonly associated with being old and without a partner or lonely with a partner. Results from a Dutch sample involving 131 unpartnered men and women between the ages of 65 and 75 indicate that the absence of friendship support rather than being single is an important determinant of loneliness. In accordance with the theory of mental incongruity, relationship standards and perceived opportunities for improving relationships are also shown to be significantly associated with loneliness. Older Dutch men and women without a partner are most vulnerable to loneliness when they have a high partner standard or a low singlehood standard, and see few opportunities to change their situation. | (for example, as a result of experienced health restrictions) in Dutch men. A better understanding of loneliness is obtained if not only the quality of relationships is considered, but also the degree of congruity between relationships and relationship standards, and the favorability of perceived opportunities for bringing about improvements. very interesting. Now i know the reasons for such outbursts from time to time . |

Roomy and schizophrenic 0-etc: I understand that it's very sad that for some reason you didn't finish any education in your youth. It happens. Many such victims of the circumstances end up in jail or worse. But is that really a good reason to show all readers here your poor, no: appalling, command of your native language?! It's not too late though - leave this board alone and subscribe to a course of English for simple minds.

Dutch, your superior attitude belies the fact that you are a wimpish old fool lacking in serious social skills and therefore forever banished to a World of your own making, peeking jealously into the World of others and failing miserably to contribute in any meaningful way other than to reinforce your own boorish inadequacies. Hahahahahahaha...

This thread is now closed. Reason: turned into a slanging match again. For the record the protagonists at Ascot were a bunch of young men from Sidcup. I encountered them on Friday when they were so proud of their pictures being in the SUN newspaper. Don't think they read the Mail Harold
