Hello, has anybody any information on the scruffy cyprus terrier that runs up and an down in karisyaka area near the yigit shop and cafe were all local cypriots drink . The dog is an amazing dog and very very friendly and gentle. I have seen him a few times running up and down and rolls on his back when you approach him . I knew he could be nobodys dog as his fur was that thick and matted and full of grass seeds. I took him to (kar) as i made a big donation a couple of days before at girne stal, and thought they could help him a bit giving him a sheer, but they said they were to busy. They did say it was the worst case of matted coat they had seen and give me number for petcross. So we took him to petcross and they did the sheering and give him antibiotics. they said he was infested with fleas and ticks and severe grass seeds in between toes in his feet. He must of been in pain, but still put on smiley face when he greeted you. cont below......

cont from above..... Im sure someone will have noticed this dog in the karisyaka area as i have seen it a few times since i been here. Now its been sheered and de flead and de ticked it looks like a different dog, He seems to respond to english and is house trained. I have looked alot on this website to find if anybody has lost this dog, but come up with nothing really. It does look like "HARRY THE CYPRUS TERRIER" mentioned on here, is he still homed? I was going to put it back on the road were i found it, but after spending a bit of time with him and him being so nice and gentle, i havent got the heart. Plus with hearing of all this poisoning now, i dont think he will last. Im on holiday at the moment in holiday apartment, so im stuck a bit what to do with him. I know its a long shot,, but is there anybody that would take him on.. He really is the nicest dog ive ever met. Better behaved than my one back home. Any suggestions what to

If it is the dog I am thinking about it has been living for at least year now. We all call him Mutley and he is supposed to be looked after by the people in the bungalow next to Yigit supermarket and he is fed by lots of people on the Jobena Park estate. We tried to take him in but he did not want to live with our other dogs he just sat at the gate until we let him out. He is a lovely dog and would make someone a lovely pet if they would take him on.

Thanks for info van2steve, i think it is mutley. he looks totally different now ha ha. I took him for last antibiotics today and he is going back to vet tomorrow to get grass seeds from inside his ears. tried to do it today but he was squeeling and wiggling bad when vet was trying to do it. theres more people in tomorrow to help hold him down. Plus they going to give him a good wash and sort rest of little problems he got. He is such a lovely dog, amazing temperment. Very gentle when taking food from you.I am just in bit of prediciment what to do with him. Maybe i put him back were i found him?, he might like his little area and freedom and people who feed him. But on the other hand he was a mess when i found him and in pain and was obviously he was uncomfortable with that coat and everything living inside it in this heat. Any ideas what to do with him? i would be willing to sponser the dog if somebody could take him in. He is the nicest dog, would make perfect companion for so

I agree he would make a lovely pet but he did not like being in our house or garden as we already have four dogs and I think he liked his freedom. We have just come back holiday in Turkey and thought I hadn't seen him as he wanders up and down by the Yigit market and sleeps on the balcony of the bungalow all the time. As I said almost all of the people on our little estate of houses feed him when they are here and give bags of food to feed him when they leave and I think the Turkish family must feed him but it would be nice if he could find a family to take care of him full time. Will ask around and if I come up with anything will get back to you. It is so good of you to have done what you have, am assuming that you had to pay for this treatment!

Im glad ive spoke to you now as getting a little worried about what to do with him, i was thinking about coming back here in a few months to open a business and was going to find about about kennels to put him, as then could make sure he was being looked after properly and wouldnt be in as bad state as i found him. But then again maybe he would like his freedom to roam more and see his friends. I wish dogs could speak, ha Who do the people in your estate give the food too before they go?? I also was thinking about sending him to england but if im coming back here theres no point. Just want to know he is getting looked after when i go, and im not about to send him into a shitty life again on the streets. Im willing to sponser the dog if he can go to a good family for a few months. Keep in touch mate, thanks for help.

bluesskies if you do feel that way then please put him into kennels, He will be off the streets. They will also check for ticks sandfly etc. The very hot weather will be with us very soon. I would have taken him but may have to go back soon and will be looking for foster homes for mine. I have just got back but had some bad medicial news when I was there which needs more treatment.Good luck and you are so wonderful doing what you have x

Just to confirm the little dog you have rescued is not "HARRY". We took him and he is the friendliest, happiest little doggie in TRNC. Sorry we can`t help you with this one though

Thanks lilli, i have read a few of your posts and was wondering whether to contact you about advice actually. Do you have a contact number for a good kennel here? And would they take this type dog as it is a street dog. i will pay for all other injections it needs to go into the kennel but my time is running out here for now so i need to act fast. In life its always easier to look the other way and let it be somebody elses problem. But i feel that me being a animal lover i have to do my bit to help here, just as many have done on here as well. Little mutley is a dream dog to have, i have had a few dogs before and have a one now back in uk. And he is pleasure to have around and better behaved than my spoilt one back home. Every time i walk past him he lies on his back for you to rub his belly, ha. I think he has mastered the art of begging. not a hinderance what so ever. P.S lilli, sorry to here about medical news, i hope everything goes good for you. Im sure it will. x

Hi sorry I haven't been on here for a few days but wanted to catch up with what is happening to Mutley. If you are thinking of kennels then please ring Lena on 05428800123 she has kennels just above Alsancak. I have been looking out for him to see if he was back there but am guessing he is still with you at the moment. As I said before he wouldn't like to stay here with our dogs and we are going to UK for 2 weeks soon anyway. Unfortunately I don't know of anyone that would take him in until you return. If you need to please feel free to ring me on 05338750849. Good Luck

Hi Blueskies, I was going to give you the same number but steve beat me to it. Speak to Lena. They are lovely caring people. My dogs usually go there. I know Mutley, frinds of our cared for it on their visit last year and I went to feed it when they left. Then the little buggar dissapeared. He is a character. Thank you for your good wishes. Really dont want to go but I cant afford to get it done here. Good luck with what you decide and you are so knind and caring to do what you have.

Thanks steve and lilli for advice and information We put him back were we found him at bungelow near the yigit market to see if he would prefere to live his life on the road but he ran after our car as we drove away.So we made decision we would take him on as our own dog. I was a bit reluctant to take him at start as i thought he would like his freedom on the street. but he must of been in pain because he was full of ticks and grass seeds inbedded in his paws and deep in his ears and his coat was the worst they had seen in kar they said. But he looks a million dollars now, and put over kilo on in weight and is tick free, flea free and pain free. We contacted a woman called margaret from kar and she is now keeping him and arranging everything for his pet passport so he can come to uk in february { lovely woman.} Felt bad leaving him but when he comes uk and joins our pack of 2 chihuahuas and wife, im sure he think it will be worth the hanging round in cage for six months.

Hi just out of interest why is he not going to UK until February. I spoke to Lena this morning and she says once they have the pet passport they can go straight away. Do you have the same information as I think Margaret deals with the same person to get the pet passport. Look forward to updates

Hi Steve, margaret said it takes about six months to get pet passport, all his rabies jabs and things have to take 6 moths to clear. We have to pick him up in France. We keep in touch with margaret and she says he in settling in fine in kennels. Even been seen playing with other dogs Hopefully we can get back in September as planned and get him out for a month. I try to get sum photos we have on phone put on here. He really does look different, he's now White, ha ha I just hope my chihuahuas will take too him. They are pretty snotty, and are afraid of other dogs. I am going to have to socialise them more, so it's not a big shook when the small bear comes to stay.

If you pick him up in France does that mean he doesn't have to do quarantine in the UK?

Yeh, I was wondering the same thing re quarantine? I wouldn't have thought the UK would have allowed a dog from TRNC in even with a Pet Passport without doing 6 months quarantine? I also echo evereyones comments re how wonderful what you have done is. We saw Chester when we were out in May/June and he was a sorry sight. We had stopped off to buy dog food for two lovely dogs that are living in the courtyard of the Forplay Casino. Two lovely doberman looking dogs, but smaller who were starving - so we fed them and watered them while we were there, but apart from hungry they were ok. We would have taken both of them had we been living there. So many dogs and too few homes :o(

Ha ha mozgor, we have similar story to you. We were staying in kayalar area and on our way to the supermarkets and days out we started seeing chester running up and down road. We stopped when we seen him and give him strokes and then put food in car to feed him but he dissapeared. We were hoping he was ok and not been run over or poisoned. Anyway on our way down from the mountain we ended up seeing the 2 dobermans in the foreplay. We would feed them and stroke them everyday for about 2 weeks, and were worried because one was a boy and one a girl { brother and sister}. They only looked young and we were afraid they would maybe start mating, so while out at girne we come across KAR stall and paid for them to be picked up and spayed. After that we never seen them again, and a local expat told us that another woman who had been feeding them had been looking for a home for them and maybe they had gone to there new home {i pray to god}.

They were the dogs of the owners of foreplay. Apparently he went to prison and they were left. What lovely dogs? Anyhows when i was on my way to the gym one morning, who do i see toddling down the road in karsiayka,, Chester. I stopped at side of road and fed him some food out of back of car. And decided that if i let him go now that maybe we wont see him again before we went. It took me about 15 minutes to pick him up because i thought he might bite me { you never know, ha.} Anyway i took him back to the house to my wifes delight, and then off we went on our journey which i named above. Chester never left our side from this day, only when he would spend his time in the vets. We realised we were lucky to help him and so couldnt leave him behind especially when we had grown to love the little character. I suppose you can not help everydog in trnc, but if you do find a dog. You will have a friend for life.. and this is what me and my wife have gained from our holiday.

My wife couldnt understand how people could let dogs like this roam the streets in these bad states. I told her that the locals see the dogs here how we see dirty pigeons in the street in the uk. Not many people on here would adopt a street pigeon in uk. I assume this is the case as locals see the strays here. {this is only my opinion} We should all realise though, that dogs have been bred to be domesticated by humans straight from the wolves thousands of years ago. They have helped humans hunt for food, guard there property and become our life long friends. No other animal is like this on the planet. I hope the law changes here in trnc and they start neutering the dogs to help the problem.
