thought I was the only one that thought that the ROC approach was patronising, 'our friends in the north' and'my big buddy Talat stuff, and will only last while ROC keeps getting everything its own way.

If you're quoting from that article I wouldn't waste your time. It isn't sourced, there is no byline and it's clearly comment rather than corroborated fact. Plus the Cyprus Times is utter rubbish and little more than a propaganda sheet. See it for what it is.

Hi Girne 29 I understand that the Australian foreign minister is meeting with a TC official today, a consequence of TC protests. He had only originally planned to visit the south.

ps apparently the GC foreign minister is meeting with Miliband. On the agenda is the moratorium which Christofias signed with Miliband. What is that all about?

| It is hoped that negotiations between the two sides be completed by next June, in time for the European Parliament elections. Apparently, before this event the Turkish Cypriots have their own general election. Does anyone know the date of this event? I guess if Talat gets reelected it would indicate that the TC's favour a settlement. If Talat loses then what happens to the output of Cyprus negotiations? | For once I agree with Pike on the quality of the article and referring to Christofias as acting like a Byzantine prostitute is hardly helpful or objective. I think both Talat and Christofias genuinely want a solution. The problem is the Devil is in the Detail of what they are both prepared to support/ accept. With the negotiations I always thought that there was considered to be a window of opportunity before TRNC elections as negotiations would be a lot more difficult oif Talat loses office. Aussie |

Aussie Agree that both leaders want a solution, what ambitious politician wouldnt. I am Personally, I agree somewhat with dixie normus's message. Talat knows the state of the TRNC and is on a damage limitation exercise at the meetings ,it is always the ROC that takes charge of the agenda knowing full well they have the upper hand. They offer or demand specifics, while the TRNC goes on the defensive and instead of replying with specifics themselves ,respond with vague talk of freedom ,aspirations and self determination while never fully countering the ROC stand.
