Yes ,but it is more difficult here,Worms are NOT abundant and you have to be selective with your choice of compost-able waste...soft matter only.....Not close to the house"cockroaches galore"...Keep it Wet ..Good Luck..

I do lots of gardening and in 3 years have only ever seen 2 worms! Worms are vital to the health of the soil, where are they all?

I think that we(British) are more used to soils with high "Humus" levels, this is were the worms live. Here the soils are heavy clay based, and bake hard in summer, not very conducive to moisture loving worms....I guess the cockroaches are the breakers down of compost etc........

Sure way of encouraging snakes, bet they would love to bed in a compost heap.

We have plenty of worms in our garden borders (but the drier conditions will drive them a little deeper).

I met someone recently who has started producing compost using food waste and special worms. She lives in the south and plans to market the system in the north when she has had more experience. Her website is http://www.eviswormworks.com.

I don't think there are many worms in Northern Ireland either. Or is it something else?
