Some of the conditions being asked of Greece before they get another bail out is that they, will have to look at selling some of their Islands!!!

Perhaps Turkey could 'help' by buying the South of Cyprus!! ...

Wouldn't that wipe the smile off the border police ....

South Cyprus, or indeed Cyprus, is not Greek and never has been.

Threads such as these show a complete lack of understanding of Cyprus and Cypriot history.

Stubs if you read the title and the post ,it says nothing that Cyprus belongs to Greece! just that Greece is having to sell something to appease. As Greek Cyprus is 'broke' too, just thought they might like to sell to Turkey , or vis versa , that Turkey just might buy them!!

Nothing to do with the history.....

Apparently, half of the small private boats In Greece have left their berths and have headed to Turkey and other Mediterranean ports, so as to avoid paying taxes. These are taxes which are now being levied as part of the austerity measures.

As far as I recall, a lot of the "Greek Islands" were Turkish until the powers that be at that time decided to dismember the defeated Ottaman Empire, so perhaps Turkey should have them back, at a discount of course!

Holy smoke, we Brits had better hope that the Greeks pull through.

Apparently, our direct banking exposure to Greece is not as high as I previously stated. It is 3.1 billion (not 20 billion), however, when loans are made, the creditor takes out a CDS (credit default swap) , which is an insurance for the creditor should the debtor default. The problem is that the CDS is sold on and then sold on again and then again and so on. This means that it is estimated that Britain's indirect exposure to the PIGS could be as much as 366 billion. If Greece goes and the other countries fall as a consequence - Portugal, Spain and Ireland, Britain will inevitably go down as well.

Its unbelievable that we have not learnt lessons from the last banking crisis.
