My good friend has just pulled out of a business deal in Esentepe which would have been of benefit to the local community. He pulled out because over the last 72 hours Esentepe has just experienced 17 hours of electricity cuts-yesterday the power was off for 11 hours.

What a great pity and another example as to why some Brits are no longer able to live in the TRNC.

Hi Magicart.

Interesting post, could you give a little more information as to how it would have benefited the local community, would it have created jobs for the locals and if so how many?

The local manage to cope with the powere cuts and still run sucessful bussinesses, so why not the Brits!

Is this just another go at the TRNC?

You can carry on regardless if you have a big enough generator.

The butcher and the baker must have been fed-up...but the candlestick-maker would be ecstatic!

Having read the first post and also living in the area, i would just comment that i was at Stevies bar on tuesday night when the power cut was on and Steve arranged for generators so that lighting and the bar could run smoothly. I am told that the power outage was a ' melted cable ' somewhere near to Turtle Bay complex. So not a trivial reason for a powercut.

This businessman seems to expect ' no problems ' with the infastructure here, which we all know is unstable at best.

Whereas Stevie overcame the problem with a little thought. Good businessman,

Your friend not willing to take on the challenge. Poor ( maybe not the right term, maybe ultra cautious )businessman

@ msg 7, Geoff1131: Good and fair understanding of the circumstances in TRNC. Well said. Some expats really made a big mistake when they decided to live in this young country - as this board unfortunately and annoyingly proves daily. Blame and shame TRNC; maybe such people should look in the mirror first.

Well said geoff and DC its becoming more -n- more a whingers board by the day, the people who cant or wont understand that this is not good old England and is developing, the local people seem capable of adapting and if certain foreigners cannot adapt then this might be the wrong place for them, and that goes for so called investors as well

Art,

The one on Sunday was a scheduled one and upgrading of the power network probably was to the benefit of the local community too...

▶ You are most probably right right and I think - but wasn't sure so I didn't mention it - the Kib-Tek maintenance was announced in Cyprus Today. Sometimes things go wrong during maintenance and it takes longer than expected. Big deal.

Political stability, low taxation, skilled and motivated work-force, access to lucrative markets, independent judicial system, minimal red tape, cheap finance and banking available and finally, (last fence) good infrastructure.

What a shame, fell at the last fence !
