Hi

I have got significant limescale on my chrome pool ladder. Any top tips / products to remove the scale and restore the shine without taking off the finish?

If im not wrong, also not only will it be limescale but also the chlorine your useing will also be slowly eating into the chrome.

You could try a light acid wash and jet wash on it,or just a jet wash on the ladders,it is a common problem here in cyprus.Ive seen the same on many pool ladders, its also possible your tiles could have limescale on them, top tiles which are @ the top of the pool water level.

Chlorine 'eats' chrome for breakfast - lunch and dinner, too!

Next time you'll do the wise thing and buy stainless steel pool fittings.

Limescale on your ladder is only a symptom of the problem.

The problem is your water has too high an alkalinity. While this is the case, your pH will always be too high leading to scaling.

Address your TA, your pH will settle and your limescale will disolve back into solution.

On reflection the steps must be stainless steel (had them for over 6 years and in good bad shape - just a 'crust' of scale below the water surface.

I'll try good old elbow grease I think...

Just a thought!

Boat owners have a constant problem with salt on their brightwork - so a chandler is where you should find good chrome/stainless steel cleaners and polishes. Salt is a lot more corrosive than limescale/chlorine and if their products can protect against salt then they should cope with a swimming pool ladder.
