I wondered if anyone was aware that if you try to import a pick-up to N.C. for your own use you will be refused. new rule came in to force about a month ago. Only if it is to be used for commercial use can it be allowed. Then the tax will be 65% of value plus 3500$. My friend shipped his out but it went straight back again to Uk. Why are we always kept in the dark on important rules and regs. Is it because we are foreigners??

I wonder why N.C try their best to make things difficult for us, it's not like were going over their and sponging off the government, we are going over their and spending our hard earned cash.

Foreigners in England don't know how lucky they are.

Dont think this is a new rule. A few years ago friends bought one but couldnt transfer the log book into their name for the same reason - no company.

As you can buy brand new imported ones here from Cangar, I don't know why they would restrict nearly new imports....

Elko, can you throw any light on the reasoning?

my friend was told by customs that the law had changed 4 days before the vehicle was shipped but there was no info on trnc website informing him of this,so he has lost nearly 4k by sending it here then back again. I dare say it helps if you know the right people or should that be the wrong people, nudge, nudge, wink wink.

Afraid this has always been the case from my research in trying to post info for others a couple of years ago.

Also there is restriction on use of and subsequent resale of what is classed as a commercial vehicle.

in the uk we had close business links to fords.

i can assure you that what they sell at changar are the cheapest of the cheap.

we brought in here, a ford ranger, tax on it was charged at 100%, 3 years ago.

we went to changar to check out the ones there. they have the old engines in there new models the spec is about 5 years behind the uk's.

the ford fiesta's are all the 1.4 models, which are the worst seller of the range due to the rubbish engine in that model. the uk dealers don't want them.

so please don't believe here you are buying the equivilent model as in the uk.

they are the worst quality fords that i have ever seen.

as for customs i am very surprised, after all look at the big loss of revenue.
