Can anyone suggest good self catering places for the two of us to stay for a 2 week holiday in September. We are considering retiring there in March next year so will be looking out for future long term rentals and checking out where we may like to live and researching the area in general. It is 12 years since we last visited N. C. so are out of touch. We will be hiring a car. Thanks in advance for any help also any advice with regard to this possible re-location. I have read some posts from members who have moved for Dubai as that is were we are now.

Hi Lemonzest,

It all depends what you like doing, do you want the quiet life or are you looking for bars, restaurants and entertainment? If you like a quiet life then look east, Esentepe or Tatlisu. If you like a busier lifestyle then

go west. Alsancak or Lapta, plenty of shops, bars, etc. My friend moved from Dubai 18 months ago, I will

ask her to contact you.

Hi The butler's wife,

Thanks for that info. We would want to be fairly central in Sept, for easy access to facilities for our holiday and our exploration. I think we would prefer somewhere quieter to live. I would be interested in hearing from your friend. Did she live in N.C. before?

Lemonzest.

The Almond Holiday village is very good follow this link and take a look - you won't be disappointed. Friends of ours use it all the time and wouldn't go anywhere else.

Hi Lemonzest. We have a small holiday complex west of Girne on the coast road. We have full self-catering facilities. The studios for 2 people are 140 pounds a week in September. We are situated on the local bus route and are 7 km from Girne. There are lots of restaurants and bars within walking distance.

Good luck

Hi, I would recommend looking on Owners Direct or Holiday Lettings for a villa rental. We used these sites for 5 years, staying in 12 different villas in different locations, before buying ours in 2009.

Hello Yusuf

Nice website - I see your focus is sustainability, does this mean that there is no swimming pool? If not is there one near by that can be used?

When you are visiting, make a point of calling in to the Pia Bella Hotel in Girne, any Tuesday 12noon (usually outside near the pool) and speak to the members of the Home Buyers Pressure Group, i.e. Marion Stokes. Could be the smartest move you ever make as to getting advice re retiring here. http://www.hbpg-trnc.net

Hi Lemonzest,

If you want a quieter life then try the Famagusta side, Iskele, Bogaz, Yenibogazici, and the villages going up to the Karpaz. Personally I found the Esentepe and Tatlisu areas a bit too quiet. Kyrenia can offer both, in my opinion, and you can find a quiet location outside of the tourist areas.

You have two weeks so have a good look around at all areas and when you rent in March of next year it might be an idea to rent for 3-6 months in the areas you favour mostly to get a real feel for it before committing to a long term rental.

Good luck !
