Probably cos that's the GC name for it, Kirklar was it's TC name - however, academic cos it's Ercan now.

I have also heard the above airport refered to as Nicosia,or should that be Lefkosia.It certainly is a mine field out there,if you will pardon the expression,



Tymvou = Greek



Kirklar = Turkish.

No it was never Nicosia, that is seperate, Tymbou was an old RAF airport in WWII

When they closed Ercan last time it was supposed to be to build a second runway, complete taxiway, and improve arrivals.
