Well its my sons 15th birthday today and yes you have guessed it no cards have arrived from the UK. I do know of at least 6 been sent about 2 weeks ago but none have arrived so luckily I told them not to put any money in, but still not the same having a birthday with no family cards to open especially from his gran and grandad.

There is one sure fire way to make sure you get post.... apart from going back to the UK to collect it...

Get your family members to get their cards to one responsible person and post Recorded Delivery to your PK (post box) here.... They (the buggers who take delight in cutting you off from the free world) don't dare interfere with mail sent in this manner.....

HAPPY 15TH BIRTHDAY TO YOUR SON

I'm sure most people on Cyprus44 wish him so as well.

It is a real shame that post doesn't arrive. I was going to send Christmas cards to people we have met recently but was told not to bother as they won't get it. They do however get post from New Zealand. I wonder where the problem lies in sending post from England.

I'm still waiting for official documents sent recorded delivery at the end of August. Last reported whereabouts was Istanbul a week after dispatch - since then nothing ......

Best thing is don't bother - or find someone coming out here and send to their house.

By way MoonPig is great web site I've found for sending cards to people in UK - and you get to personalise them - average price is about £2.50 - £3.00 - cheaper than Hallmark and buying here and no need to send early or worry about if it arrives.

Hi Deb

I never receive cards letters anything only official letters seem to get through, on Tuesday next week my grandchildren move to Thailand and my family in the UK sent Birthday/Christmas cards over 4 weeks ago and to date not received anything, which is heartbreaking as the little ones Birthday is 4 days after they leave, me I'm just angry as I have been asking this question for nearly 4 years. why?

My Mother is going to put a complaint to her local Post Master. She was most upset for the second year that we did not receive our anniversary cards.

This may be controversial but I am convinced there is a disruptive element in the UK post office that sees Mersin 10 on mail and destroys it.

To add to this, the last time I visited UK we could see the plane being loaded at Stansted. One individual was picking boxes off a trolley, raising them in the air and deliberatley throwing them onto conveyor. It was obvious a supervisor came and told him to stop but at a guess this individual must have been strong in union because he just continued. The boxes were obvioulsy commercial so would never know what they were.

We have told everyone to either pass mail to relatives coming over or just to e-mail. Not ideal but having actually seen my mother 2 weeks ago she was very upset that this sort of thing is happening.

We have only been in TRNC since July but have managed to recieve 5 official letters from the UK so why not any other mail? I spoke with family last night in the UK and they said they had put 2 cards in a brown envelope but still nothing. Something is drastically wrong and its a pity we cant get to the bottom of it especially with Xmas round the corner. I do like my cards.

just recieved post today it was sent from norwich uk on the 23 oct 08.

so this was a good time scale.

one problem we have is our kochan says we live in the girne district but the post office want the post addressed to lefkosa for our village.

if you are having trouble with your post check with the post office what they want on the address, so that it gets to you. maybe this would help.

I work for the Post Office --No conspiracy just a total mess everything is run on a shoestring. Waste of time complaining all complaints are recorded then dumped not followed up. As for union officials etc--these days are long gone, when i started --yes, not now. Half our postmen in the greater London area have problems reading--many are not native to our shores and english is not their first language.

I think the thievery happens once the stuff has left the UK.

Your not suggesting the TURKISH postmen i hope? In my experience of 25 years in the PostOffice, official figures by level of complaints first -South Africa, second -USA, third-Canada and FOURTH-UK.

If the problem is after they have left the UK why do all the letters posted to us from France, Denmark, Russia, USA and Australia get through, none of those have ever gone missing?

msg15,

Cos the thieves know people from these countries are not mugs who would send anything of value to the TRNC, maybe?

Mount Pleasant sorting office London has been subject to several police investigations and blatant thievery was uncovered.... I seem to remember the details were part of a TV documentary....

So it's not just once the mail leaves the UK...

Just google "Sorting Office Theft" and you'll get an idea of just how prevalent the problem is... mail going abroad provides particularly rich pickings....

Suzanne,

You didn't get any of my mesages of love though! lol

Maybe Greeks love working in sorting offices.... it's a thought...

Just as unfounded as some of the finger pointing going on here...

http://www.highbeam.com/Search.aspx?q=sorting+office+theft

423 sorting offices with post going missing on a massive scale...

Suzanne its nothing to proud of if postmen of Greek descent are stealing mail to make a political point in the UK. It shows the Greeks as nothing more than thieves and is something you should be condeming!

i shouldn't think the people at the post office would want him to go off on one, like he is fond of doing. i recon they are scared!

Groucho I agree the problem is in the sorting office of Mount pleasant, and also the postmen when it leaves there (not all) but as I have stated on numerous forums what the postmen do, the post is kept in the boot of their cars and some are posted the following day, it depends in they are moonlighting the next day, believe me I have seen it on several occasions and reported it, and they were reprimanded, but does that sort out the problems with our mail getting through, if Wells Fargo can get through why cant our letters.
