My husband is starting to get some pain in one of his hips, this is keeping him awake at night. Can anybody recommend a specialist who will check and xray the hip and give a diagnosis?

A Swedish person I know had hip problems and eventually a new hip 4 years ago. Having spoken to his wife he was very satisfied. He will call me and then we will arrange some form of contact if you want.

if a hip replacement - either partial or full - is recommended don't forget to ask the crucial question;

''How many have you done?'' I asked the same question of Orthop. surgeons here in the north and even in the south. Best I could get was ''about forty''. Went back to uk eventually where my surgeon was able to say 200 in last year and a half.

I would second the recommendation for Dr. Can Cobanoglu. He is very thorough and really asks many questions before he starts on a course of treatment and is open to a variety of treatments including cold laser. He treats many sportsmen. He speaks perfect English and is a very nice man.

Thank you all for your replies, will get in touch with Dr. Can Cobanoglu tomorrow. Do you know where in Lefkosia we would find him. Is he at one of the hospitals or does he have a private clinic?

I had a hip replacement in March and can recommend Dr. Tayfun Beyatli and the Medikent Hospital 0392 680 8080. I saw three different surgeons here, not only once but twice as I was so frightened and worried about making the right decision.

I am now walking normally and without any pain (I was on strong painkillers before and could hardly walk).

Speak as you find has always been my motto and I found him first class, together with the hospital. By the way, my husband was allowed to stay with me for the whole time I was in hospital, and they fed him too!!

If you would like to speak to me for more info I am on 0533 8622649.

I had both hips resurfaced at the same time, in the UK in 2006. The modern way is the Birmingham hip resurfacing treatment rather then the full hip replacement of old.

You also want to ask who makes the hip joints as some have been giving problems recently. Best research that aspect.

If I can be of any assistance as to my experience, please ask and I'll supply a phone number.
