Thanks for posting that, Paul. There is, of course, the possibility that this M.E.P. may be regarded by the TRNC 'powers that be' as an unwanted 'busybody' - after all, why would they want to change the 'status quo', especially with the odd €26 million tossed their way, with presumably minimal accountability as to how it is spent, or frittered away?

Newlad the money does not involve recognition of the TRNC. I know it seems strange but that is the reality. The money does not go to the TRNC but to the TC community. The original amount was 259 million euros. A further €26.5 was recently, in last few weeks, allocated for this program. Tootie and Tenakoutou as to where the original 259mil Eruos has gone and accountability this is all available online and having been marginaly involved in a couple of projects that have been funded from these monies there is considerable accountability. I do personaly have critisims of the process but lack of accountability or transparency on what moneis were given to who for what are not amongst them.

As I understand it the GC's have to agree on which projects, these monies are used - so you can imagine the delays and interference.

I was also involved in one of the programmes and came to see first-hand how seriously this aid-package was approached. The aid was packaged out only when GC objections could be properly addressed - and believe me they were looking to object. Every last detail was properly investigated and passed: by EU, GC and TC (in our case an extremely professional department under the PM) offices. All spending was subject to special scrutiny, and indeed carried out by, the EU. By far the greatest part was spent on infrastructure, particularly waste-water reclamation and recycling. So if you haven't seen a bandstand or been to a concert sponsered by the EU it was because they saw other "calls" as having priority.
