On one of the sites I regularly visit I found this interesting quiz. The quiz is in the English language so it must be easy for most C44 members:

@ the non-Britisher...: Sorry, sorry, sorry! The open nerve... In the future: always read for "Brit" "English speaking people".

Dear English speaking people please don't forget I can check in the statistics (and I may tell you later in this thread...) who "is not telling the whole truth"... ;-)

Now let's see whether this post gets follow-ups or not...

Amazed myself. I got 10 out of 10 too! I admit that a couple were lucky guesses though.

Some would say that Ireland is actually a part of the British Isles.

newscoop,

You are indeed correct that Ireland is part of 'The British Isles' geographically. It was just my little joke. You would be a brave man to call an Irishman a Brit or even worse, ENGLISH !!! aaaaaaagh........

One kick in the arse reserved for Newscoop.

Britain = so called by the Romans for the tin (latin - pretan) deposits. No tin deposits in Ireland so not a 'pretanic' isle!

Ireland = Hibernia (witnerland) to the Romans = Menapia to the Greeks.

Only became the "British Isles" after the Act of Union 1801.

You are all welcome anytime though.

Dublin.... Latin for tin is Stannum...... hence the entry in the periodic table 'Sn'

And there's plenty of tin ore (casiterite) in the Wicklow mountains.
