The best Doner Kebabs

Anyone fancy a doner kebab? The place to go is certainly Doner City, oposite the Karakum Lemar, next to the little market. They specialise in Doners:

Chicken Doner in Cyprus pitta+ayran= 5tl

Meat Doner in Cyprus pitta+ayran= 5tl

Mix Doner in Cyprus pitta+ayran=5tl

EFES= 3tl



They are really tasty and dont drip from the botom and make a mess. The place is spotlessly clean and is run by a nice man who speaks fluent english. I strongly advise you to go one day!

fast food in alsancak allways for me ....went for first time sunday to blue dolphin as cafefast food closed ....ok for chips but chicken donner cant live with fast food

Surely for anyone to claim that 'xxxx' is the best place for Kebabs (or whatever) - you would have to have tried every other eating establishment in the North.

u have to ask a cypriot for the best donner in town and its none of the above !!! If you ever go to the old kyrenia to nicosia road called gonyelli theres a donner kebab palce there called ozzie kebabs, its massive and the best tasting kebab u can find on the island because its made form lamb not mixed with beef , totally different taste it costs 12 or 14tl but u get what u pay for and if u pay 5tl and expect the best u got to be a right noddy lol

It is all subjective.

Everyone has different tastes and all I know is that having worked in the middle east for a long time I rate Fast Food as being the best in the Alsancak area and certainly the best I have tasted for a long time and I aint going anywhere else for my kebabs.

girne road to alsancak ,at golden ladt statue (sevenor restraunt) turn left ,follow 1/2mile past atakara supermarket and head into village ,its now on your right in the village tself ,cant miss it

I would say now that you need to get there early for the lamb doner as it goes quickly so I would suggest midday at the latest but chicken doner and all kebabs are available all day/evening. Not open on Sunday's.

Sadly not of much use. A doner is a perfect meal for me but I only eat once every day and that would be far too early. I guess I'll just have to stick with Gulen.

JJ, we went last Saturday and they still had Lamb Doner at 7.30. But once it's gone that's it, which is a good thing as you know it's fresh everyday.

The best döner you can eat (and take it from someone who has been to almost every döner place from Güzelyurt to Magosa) is a small kebab place in the middle of İskele (near Magosa Boğaz) who prepare their own döner from 100% lamb. The seating area is small but the taste is fantastic. Although I have been there a few times, never bothered to look at the name of the place - but it's the only döner place at İskele town square.

If you do not wish to travel that far, then Anibal outside the Eastern end of walled city in Lefkoşa, is the tops. I have been eating his kebabs from childhood, and it is a family business making döners for the past 50 years or so.

Now, if you are wealthy and want an adventure; take a day trip to Ankara, do some cheap shopping and eat döner at "Bursa Kebap House", in an area called Opera. Five minutes from the centre of the capital, it is so famous, all you have to do is mention the name & its area to the taxi driver. Never thought döner could

Thanks for the recommendation.

I tried Fast Food in Alsancak and it was excellent. Had a lamb doner (at 17:45 AJ please note) with chilli although I did find the chilli a bit mild.

You cannot guarantee getting lamb doner at that time because they only put one 'spit' on a day so when it is gone it is gone. Incidentally they also have their own butchers shop just up the road (towards Lapta) and obviously that is where they get their supplies from. So if you want decent meat then you know where to go.

İf u go to iskele area, there is a Donner Kebab in the middle of village called Kuzucuk, %100 fresh and only open weekends between 08:00 - 15:00 hours, name called (HAFTA SONU DÖNER) english spoken
