President Derviş Eroğlu has underlined the need to derive lessons from the pre-1974 events. He said that the Cyprus Turkish Side was working to make sure that a settlement to be reached will not be as short lived as the 1960 Partnership Republic which only lasted for three years.

Speaking yesterday evening at the opening of the 43rd Annual Iskele Festival, the President said that the Cyprus Turkish Side was seeking to reach a viable and sustainable solution to the Cyprus Problem.

“We will be going to Geneva with the aim of achieving this goal” he added. Pointing out that the negotiations were at the same time a matter of bargaining, Eroğlu said that it would not be possible to reach a solution as long as the Greek Cypriot Side continued to be selfish and demanding.

“Reaching a solution will not be possible as long as our neighbor continues to demand more and more without making any concessions in return” he added.

Drawing attention to the fact that the negotiations aimed at reaching a solution to the Cyprus Problem have been going on for more than 48 years, the President said that the Cyprus Turkish people had run out of patience and reiterated the need to introduce deadlines in the ongoing talks.

How can you reach an agreement between RoC and TRNC, can anyone tell me or answer this question in 1983 we declared indepence from Federal state to Republic, we have created a state within a state and now we are talking about going back to federal state, how is the going to be achieved?

Further more the greeks cypriot goverment wants Guzelyurt,The closed zone and reduction of land from 37% of TRNC to 30% as they claim to be the bigger popullation, which idiot is going to agree to this and put 1000's of people back into homeless state again, by given back Guzelyurt alone will put 50,000 into homeless and relocation again after 37 years. A never ending story.we will continue like this for another 40-50 years like North and South Korea

I for one appose any agreement from now on their can only be 2 state Republic of Southern Cyprus and Republic of Northern Cyprus not TRNC both within the E.U.
