Three more new artifacts have been unearthed in excavations taking place at the Ancient Roman city of Salamis.

Three Roman statues, dating back to the 2nd Century AD, which were discovered at the ruins, were shown to the press yesterday.

The Eastern Mediterranean University’s Archaeological and Cultural Heritage Research Centre (AKVAM) which is in charge of the excavations held a press conference yesterday.

Speaking at the press conference, the Rector of the Eastern Mediterranean University Abdullah Öztoprak said that with the new discoveries, the number of statues unearthed in the latest excavations had reached four.



Also speaking, Assistant Prof. Ayça Özcan from the Süleyman Demirel University in Turkey who is also taking part in the excavations said that their aim was to add the three new unearthed statues dating back to the island’s Roman era to the world’s cultural heritage.

She said that the aim of this year’s excavation was to complete work on unearthing the cooling room of the city’s Roman bath.
