The Minister of Finance Ersin Tatar has reiterated the Cyprus Turkish Side’s peaceful stance at the negotiations table. Tatar pointed out that the perpetuation of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and its sovereignty was among the red lines of the Cyprus Turkish Side.

Speaking on the Turkish state-run TRT News channel, Finance Minister Ersin Tatar said that the Cyprus

Turkish Side was maintaining the talks with the Greek Cypriot Side with the aim of bringing about a solution to the Cyprus problem. “The Cyprus Turks devotedly approved the Annan Plan in 2004. But the Greek Cypriot Side unilaterally gained its EU membership, despite its rejection of the Plan.

The European Union had failed to keep its promises given back in 2004. We are being subjected to a great injustice” Tatar said.

The Minister said that the Cyprus Turkish Side was maintaining its peaceful efforts at the negotiations with the Greek Cypriot Side, despite all this injustice.

Underlining the need for a solution to ensure the perpetuation of the TRNC and its sovereignty, Tatar stated however that the two sides had differing views on this issue, as the Greek Cypriot Side did not favor equal power-sharing.
