fed up with paying out a fortune for decent week killer I scoured the internet and found that mixed with a tiny bit of liquid soap pickling vinegar does the job perfectly............for a fraction of the cost of roundup and other shop bought ones........one drawback though is that it is a bit smelly for a while and does tempt you to the fish and chip shop when done!! But get rid of weeds it certainly does..........................

As a mere male shrimp, what's the difference in pickling vinegar to other types?

Been using it for ages, not 100% successful but kills most weeds.

Pickling vinegar is for pickling the likes of onions, vegetables, etc. Usually available in most supermarkets in large 1 litre or more containers and much cheaper than table vinegar such as Sarsons. A better solution to combat weeds than keeping a goat or laying thick concrete, perhaps !

yes pickling vinegar is much much cheaper, only £2.00 a gallon..........and I am over the moon,, all the weeds have now died between the paving slabs in a matter of 24 hours or less............environmentally friendly and the grass going down the drive is now definately on its way out...........and the smell has gone now, even better ..........x

Vinegar kills the leaves but not the root so add bleach and salt with the vinegar on weeds this makes sure they dont come back ,it works

You shouldn't mix vinegar with bleach as it will produce toxic chlorine gas, which may result in the weeder being as dead as the weeds.

Toxic chlorine gas ! Leave out the bleach then, and use Napalm. It worked for the Yanks in Vietnam

Well I only pay about 20tl for a litre of good quality weed killer which is VERY effective in killing the weed and the roots and rarely needs a second application.

One ltr lasts me about a year so why bother risking your life!!!!

I'm definitely interested in trying this one. Can someone tell me what to look out for in the supermarkets - is it actually called pickling vinegar in English or is there a Turkish name I need to look for?

I guess wine vinegar is the answer since all vinegar is used for pickling and is a lot cheaper than malt viinegar.

Not sure if wine vinegar and pickling vinegar are the same thing............but it is definately pickling vinegar I used albeit in the uk, although apparantly it is for sale over there too in most supermarkets, I think I actually paid £2.10 for a gallon..........I could have bought spiced pickling vinegar for a bit more, but didnt think the weeds would mind which one I used!!! ps weeds are still dead!!

1 ltr of quality weed killer is 16tl from the suppliers opposite Swell Bar alsancac.

Add 5 capfull to 1 ltr of water (!/4 bottle of weed killer to 17 ltrs of water ) My watering can size. so I get four watering cans of 17 litrs per bottle of weedkiller @ 16tl.

This covers ground size 10ft x 40 ft. per watering can.

Is the vinegar solution applied by spray bottle over an area or just onto individual weeds ?

Just thrown the bottle away, so can't give you the make but you can definitely buy pickling vinegar in Tempo, its clear liquid in lt bottles alongside the malt vinegars, the label shows vegtables being pickled! Sirke Asitleme is the Turkish

message 21, I use a plastic watering can .............I use it on the gravel driveway it would take ages to aim it at each individual weed, it is such a cheap way of getting rid of the weeds it really is worth trying x

No soil on the driveway so not a problem!

Thanks halfful. When I've got rid of the weeds think I'll might try my hand at pickling the masses of cucumbers and aubergines I have in the rest of the gardem

message 25, well here's the thing.......vinegar is more environmentally friendly than all the chemicals put into shop bought ones................so it is better for the soil, it may initially make it a bit more acid.....but after a year or to it returns to its normal levels................hope this helpsx
