Does anyone out there know where we can buy identification discs (metal dog tags to hang on a collar) and where we can have them engraved (name and mobile number)? Thanks for replies!

The key cutting shop in Tin Pan Alley does them. Walk down main street in Kyrenia, left into Tin Pan Alley then about 4th shop on the left.

Done: two new collars and two identification tags. On each tag the dog's name and our mobile phone numbers.

Here's another solution to give your dog (and cat!) some extra safety. We found it this morning. I don't know how to name it in English, but the picture will - as per the old Chinese saying - tell you more than a thousand (of my) words.

Think all dogs need one of these on, then you can differentiate an owned dog to a street dog in your areas.

We have found our discs useful to, as the dog can be heard where ever he is as the discs do jangle when they walk, or run...

I got those little containers and they came unscrewed within days - both dogs lost them - i didnt realise as the top bit was still there - so Hans, keep checking that they are still screwed on well.

The engraved one we have has got so worn it cant be read anymore, so need another of those as well!! tin Pan alley here we come!

Hans. These little containers do seem a good idea, but when I had one for my german shepherd it kept coming unscrewed for some reason. Gave up in the end and wrote his details in ink on the underneath of his collar.

@ msg 10 & 11: I know, I remember from when we bought them in Holland. I've put a little glue on the screw-side of the container (thanks for giving the right name!), which will keep the two parts together but still will make it possible to unscrew the container with some force. I think. But I'll keep an eye on the behaviour of the container.

What a lucky dog, so many people looking out for him. I am in Germany at the moment and I will go to the petshop and see what they sell here if you like.

@ msg 14, Dippersgirl: In Germany..?! Probably most popular there: a collar-GPS from BMW designed by an Italian...

Have a look, please Dippersgirl, you never know what new ideas are now on the market.

You may mock Hans, water off a German/english duck's back, haha. I will look for you all the same.

Unfortunately I am here because my mother is ill, so when I'm not at the hospital I have all the time in the world.

Was advised when went to get new dog tag engraved not to put name of dog on it,as apparentally makes it easier for potential dog knappers.

Noel,

Maybe the answer is to have the disc engraved with "Byt Mi"... that should put-off any dog-napping attempt!

I understand why one shouldn't put on the name of the dog, however, if the potential dog-napper can get close enough to read the disc, then the dog has most likely been caught...
