Got back on Thursday from a three week break in Lapta, the change in temperature was a bit of a shock to say the least. We were pleasantly surprised at the improvements to the roads and footpaths in Lapta and Alsancak since our last visit, also the street lighting seemed much better and the whole place looked tidier. I noticed a fair number of new shops opening and a couple of banks too, all of these things improve the appearance of the area and hopefully this trend will continue. It was good to see the number of new restaurants that have opened in the Lapta/Alsancak area although I do believe a couple of the already established ones are due to close through exorbitant rent rises. I can only hope that things continue to improve for all concerned and I look forward to being back out there for Christmas and New Year.

The general upgrading of roads and pavements is a welcome filip to the otherwise run-down nature of some areas... I must say part of the charm of northern Cyprus is some of the more oldie-worldy areas and I do hope they don't get changed too radically in the name of progress... For those who live with the problems of poor infrastructure it can't come soon enough... and I would not want my romantic view of old Cyprus to stop them having an enhanced life-style too...

I totally agree Groucho, while I do appreciate having a few roads around the town without potholes and with street lights I would hate to see the place change too much. The unspoilt bits of Cyprus are far too beautiful to be changed and are what brought us there in the first place.
