When we looked they were very expensive in comparision to what you would pay for the same thing in the UK. Which is a bit much considering they come from Turkey.

I love these tiles and have used them in many houses we have had in the past, but won't pay the prices here.

For travertine it depends on the grade/quality - there are 3 types as far as I'm aware.

Shop around; some of the suppliers tend to try it on if you're foreign. The place in the industrial park in Karaoglanoglu springs to mind.

That said - have used Simtas for years and found them to be most competitive.

Travertine is a better material imo, I like the finish and feel.

There are loads of tile sealers on the market, pop down to your local DIY store and take your pick. They couild probably do with being resealed sooner than a few years in a heavy wear area such as a kitchen, maybe every 18 months or so because they are a porous material and will stain if not sealed properly.

you'd be better off using a quality ceramic tile....

far easier to clean and maintain..........

Agree with you Nick. Our whole place has travertine floors and they don't look good after six years wear. Holes forming daily as the material collapses. Probably the cheapest that the builder could find!

There are some lovely ceramic tiles that look like travertine.

we have granite tile.............brilliant, use a steam cleaner to get them clean, look shiny like a mirror, so no soapy stuff of any kind needed. They still look brilliant after 5 years. No sealing needed no polishing, saves loads of time!!!

I think it probably depened on where you intend using them. You don't want to put down anything slippery in bathrooms , kitchen or anywhere people might enter with wet feet.
