This may interest Britishers in TRNC also: "Living overseas not getting any easier for British pensioners, research suggests."

Hi Hans,

This refers mostly to UK pensioners living abroad in the EU. We aren't in the EU.

It also refers to Australia, NZ and SA. We aren't there either.

Interestingly, Sterling is currently enjoying a high against the TL, only seen twice in the last 12 months.

@ msg 2, TRNCVaughan: Just thought the article might interest expat Britishers anywhere in the world. If I'm wrong - forget the post!

It is an interesting article, but what it doesn't point out is that there are advantages to NOT living in the EU. When the Greek, Portuguese, Irish and Spanish economies ruin the EU, I suspect we may see an influx of Brit retirees to those countries, looking to live cheaply on their pensions once again.

Thank goodness we are not in the eurozone with the problems still to come. Possibly the only thing that Gordon Brown did right was not joining!

Bye the bye Hans the term is Britons. Britishers was the term used by Germans over 70 years ago. I know you would like to be correct in your English.

Re: Msg 7,

Re: Britishers. Nothing to do with the Germans ( they say 'die Briten' or even more often 'die Engländer') It comes from the times of the Raj as well as American English.

Britisher is now more often used when being "Jocular" though coming from the ever more " Stoic" Hans, I doubt that was his intention..

Its getting dammed harder for pensioners to live in the UK, the squeeze is on no matter where you are, if its quality of life you want for your tender years with a mediocre cost of living NC is the place to be. The eurozone is a dead fish and things are gonna get alot worse. Enjoy NC drink yourself to death in the next 5 years and you'll be ok.

As a couple who have to make a choice of where to retire in the next few months NC becomes more appealing by the minute. Not a bad idea Dixie Normus, better than living to a ripe old age with Alzheimers in U.K.
