Read the article and it really is heartbreaking. It's unbelievable that any human being is still being treated like this in this day and age.

Turkey should hang their heads in shame.

You should try visitng some of the so called nursing homes in the UK for the elderly. although they are not not tethered up they might as well be . I have visited at least ten nursing homes in the past three years as my father is a dementia patient every one of them stink of urine ! Staff dont give a toss sorry some of the staff not all of them . PS not defending the turkish institutions just commenting on the posting.

Full marks for Fergie for actually making good use of publicity generated by her name. Yes, shame on Turkey. It's things like this that keep them out of Europe and make people want to keep them out. Nevertheless, Europe is the only way to go.

like mary whitehouse and "play for today"

haven't seen the article but no doubt would be very shocked

nonetheless 1.3 billion euros given to bulgaria

has mysteriously "disappeared"

while the orphanage scandal in romania continued long after it joined

meanwhile the uk has been part of a three trillion dollar war in iraq

where hundreds of thousands of civilians have been killed or injured

of course if turkey ever was on the point of joining the eu

it may in theory be expected to hand north cyprus

to the gc nationalists

who by now I am sure, are now far too civilised to repeat

the land-grabs, killings and pogroms

they carried out in the more primitive era of the 60's and 70's

different rules for turkey?

no surely not!

I apologise for my sarkozy, er I mean sarcasm

It's appalling! In this day and age things like this shouldn't be going on.

andre msg 6,

Do Bulgaria, Iraq and GC pogroms have anything whatsoever to do with the Turkish orphanage scandal? Any decent person would condemn the situation.

Pteke.....spot on! Any decent person would be moved by the inhuman conditions that these disadvantaged people find themselves in.

Too many people turn a blind eye to these situations because it does not affect them....but at the end of the day it is up to the decent people all over the world to highlight their plight in the hope that by shaming Turkey they will end this barbaric treatment.

I don,t think anyone could fail to be moved by the report on the conditions in orphanages in Turkey, it is unacceptable by anyones standards and must be rectified as soon as possible.

I think the point of message 6 was that conditions such as these are still present in countries that have already joined Europe and have been well documented in the past but have not hindered those countries in their entry into Europe.

Maybe you all might remember the state of China's orphanages? The images are still etched in my mind. Despite their barbarism and total lack of human rights, the world is in bed with them and as for the olympic games, what a complete travesty of justice.

Mitsi - Agreed. I read this article this morning while eating breakfast and I'm afraid it stuck in my throat.

Trust Pike to use this story to get at anything Turkish

He looks Greek in the photo

Not much of him,you could bed him down in a matchbox

Its true what they say, these little folk go into uniform or look for a big truck to drive.

And are all mouth

They have even put a badge on his arm to say he is at a crossroad in his life.
