Last week I went into the chemist to pick up some ear drops.

Common ear drops used by a lot of people, however they had no price on them. I enquired as to how much they were and after opening a list guide, with out even consulting it, I was promptly told they were 15lira.

Later found all other chemists charge 10lira for it.

This is probably the 3rd or 4th time its happened, every time it happens I promise myslef I won'[t use the same chemist again, then after some month have passed I inevitably pop in.

Funny thing is I mentioned it to another chemist, how as we don't speak Turkish, he overcharges us.

Without even mentioning which chemist it was, the woman I spoke to mentioned him straight away and asked if it was him I was referring to....

The chemist I'm referring to is the one next to Tempo in Edrimit, before the Bektas supermarket and just before Bells cash and carry when coming from Girne, on the right on the corner.

@ msg 1, Goonerboy: The location of this chemist is not in "Edrimit" (= Edremit) but Karaoğlanoğlu. And for the tablets I regularly need I pay the chemist (a very helpful family) exactly the same as at other chemists. Just for the record.

Went to my local chemist (opposite Astro) a year or so ago and asked for the local anti diarrhoea tablets (lopermid) and was charged 2.50TL with the yellow price ticket showing 2.10TL. When I asked why the difference the big white book came out and was pointed to the official latest price, 2.50TL. Paid and left quickly asking for a cup of water dropping a tab asap. The surges eased and just made it home in one 'clean' piece however, whilst back on the 'throne', I peeled back 4 layers of the yellow price tickets on the packet until the last one stated 1TL! Oh well, they still work when necessary and a lot cheaper than the well known branded ones and no skid marks on my pants!

I think the family are very nice, but they drastically overcharged me on 2 Scholl ankle supports for my husband...i paid 50tl for them and when i got home my husband went mad and took them straight back, they were 7tl each everywhere else! They did give him a full refund however but unfortunately it leaves a bad taste and I havent been back since.

The only pharmacy that I've ever had any problem with - and I certainly wouldn't go there again - was the one opposite Astro in Girne. I collected a prescription, for a friend, from Dr Munur who told me that this pharmacy was the only one that would have the drug. Paid about 200TL for it. Sadly the friend died and I took the unopened pack back and was refunded 60TL which was the correct price! Subsequently heard that this doctor always tells people to go to the same pharmacy. Wouldn't go near either of them!

Have had several bad experiences over the years at the chemist referred to in the original posting. All monetary obviously.

Shop elsewhere - plenty of others to choose from that actually have the prices on the good that they are selling!

If you are passing Bogaz/Girne then try the one there, we have always found them resonable.
