The car is in the uk but I thought it was worth mentioning as it 27 yrs old and should be exempt from trnc import taxes.

Why would it be exempt from TRNC import taxes? Classics are charged at approx 44% of the original (i.e. 1984) purchase price which you have to prove. Could be looking at 44% of £15-20k.

Msg I stand corrected but I am sure I have read in previous threads about classsics that there are advantages to bringing in classics as it can be cheaper than buying one that is already out there and paying even more.

Etypes were £2,000 when introduced in 1961

I have a 1969 2+2 that was £2,800 new in 1969

Msg 11 that is worth some money today if it is in good condition but I am sureyou know it would be worth even more if it was a soft top.

Msg 8 it is only really advantageous to bringing one in if the original purchase price was low as the import duty will also be low. Unfortunately this is not the case for Merc SL's.
