We are currently suffering from a wasp infestation that is making bbq-ing impossible. Anytime there is meat around (what happened to those wasps that went for strawberry jam and sweet things?) a swarm of wasps appear from nowhere, we haven't been able to work out where they are coming from so can't destroy the nest, has anyone got any advice of how we can get rid of them? They appear to be able to carry away about their body weight in meat!!

Thanks

Go to the local Belidiye, they will find the nest and destroy.

These Cypriot wasps frequently make a small, oval shaped, nest in geraniums, hedges or stone walls. We had one in our post box!

These nests are very small - size of a cricket ball and don't hold more than about 50 wasps. At least, that's what I have observed over the past 30 years in Cyprus.

There is a trick to 'zap' the lot in one go:

Get a length of 1/2" pvc pipe - you need this to be a safe distance from the wasps' nest - fill the end of the pipe back about a coupla inches with ant powder, preferably wait 'til dusk, then using the pipe like a 'blow-dart', deal to your wasps' nest!

When the force of the powder hits the nest [or a swarm of bees], they die instantly - unlike the Cypriot brown and yellow hornets, which take a fair bit longer to keel over. These live in holes - you can use the same method, but wait until dark!

Don't take jam and sweet things. Only steak, chops n sausage. Wasps are not meat eaters. Sorry it's a man thing lol.

Do what Nurseawful advises, get the experts in.
