1) Does this negates their legal liabilities?

2) How wide spread is the 'hacking' epidemic within the newspaper industry?

3) Is this action to protect the Sky take over the whole of BSB?

4) What is the true involvement of the Police and Politicians in any possible cover-up?

And many more questions to be answered! However, those that can, buy the last edition this Sunday for prosperity and the start of News Corp demise!

@ msg 10, araneae: (...) The News of the World is the UK's biggest selling newspaper and has been in circulation for 168 years. (...)

Sixteen MILLION readers weekly. Tells a tale, doesn't it? And they all swear that they only read the paper at the barbers. The mass-hysteria in the UK re: "News of the World" is utterly hypocritical. A decent paper like The Guardian (and others) has written about the scum at "News of the World" and other gutter tabloids - and nobody in the UK cared. And NOW the whole country seems to be in turmoil. Disgusting indeed, like Mr. Cameron said (although in another context).

The lower level of British news papers get away with lies - as long as they write in the last line of an article that the accused denies the accusations and is probably right.

Disgusting and unheard of in many Western European countries.

Even the German "Bild Zeitung" wouldn't dare to copy the behaviour of the UK news paper scum - calling themselves journalists. Bah.

A country that allows daily filth in so-called news papers can blame the readers (all Poles, "Pakis" etc, of course) or can reflect on what's really going on in the once BEST IN THE WORLD news paper business.

I wonder what's it going to be...

Many here would have boycotted the News of the World and will think twice about buying the Sun. But I would imagine there are far fewer who would cancel their subscription to SKY TV, the main organ of the Murdoch Group.

Message 31, whilst your other postings might be humerous, this particular one is not. Have a thought of the staff that have been made redundant and have gone home tonight devestated. Whilst the Murdoch empire has suggested these people can now apply to other newspapers for employment we all know that not everyone will be able to secure employment, so not funny.

The News of the World is a brand and its people like Rebecca Brookes and her cronies that have run the show and caused the problems and deserves to be arrested and go to prison. She and her cronies maybe bullitt proof and being protected by the Murdoch empire but it still makes them scum.

With respect for your opinion: they don't belong in the decent news paper world, where journalists at least TRY to write the truth (all unintentional errors in this hurried business included). What they have done or covered in NOTW - it should have been said long ago: OUT.

A sigh of relief has been heard by all the con-merchants, cheats, liars, pedophiles, cheating politicians, local government thieves, conning builders, corrupt policemen, bribe-taking footballers, etc.etc.etc. that TNOTW exposed, or were in the process of exposing ! TNOTW was not ALL bad all the time and some investigative journalism was conducted correctly and to the benefit of the community in exposing corruption.

Do you think HACKING is only done by journalists ? MI 6 is constantly doing it to expose terrorists, do you not think that they too have thousands of innocent personnel on THEIR files?

Hacking is endemic in the WORLD. The only reason for TNOTW being closed is to make Murdoc look good in his bid to take over 100% of the NEWS MEDIA, in MHO.

Message 37... DC as you well know, it takes more than Journalists to keep a newspaper going, I was talking about about the people that have nothing to do with the content of the newspaper or how they get their information. I'm talking ordinary people who have basically been given no notice that their jobs are to finish on Sunday. We've all said our bit about what we think about the Brand and its Journalists and Editors etc. I don't care about those, but I do care about those at ground level that have found themselves in a situation beyond their control in the UK along with 3 million others.

msg 37. The paper did indeed expose some bad people and going's on, this was destroyed by the made up stories and times they were sued in courts. tits and sport was the main garbage written by liars and cheats and bribing the Police in to the bargain. DC has it well sussed.

I cannot remember buying any UK daily newspaper in the last 50 years. When visitors give me copy which they have bought for the plane journey I do the crossword puzzles and throw them in the bin. I only glance at TV BBC and Euro news as to me they are mutual admiration societies full of their own importance and distorting news for their own ends. When teletext news first became popular I did follow that as it was limited to facts without analysis. Sometimes it is good to be totally ignorant !

Brinsley has already asked a similar question on this board a dozen times. My answer is still the same: an eternal blame on the politicians of the Netherlands who sent a not adequately armed army into an UN adventure, where it was let down when it needed (air) support from so-called allies.

But I don't give this or any answer to someone like you, someone with this profile: http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/show-member.asp?member=billybob .

You just don't exist.

I think the closing of the New of the world actually poses more questions than answers....what else are they trying to cover up?...........By closing it down (and some people will always want to read tittle tattle!!) hundreds of jobs are now gone for people that wouldnt have had any idea of what was going on......they did not commit the crime, sack the people involved certainly but maybe keep the paper going, it would have survived .........I am certainly not a reader of this paper but hate to think of the all the now unemployed through no fault of their own,.........

Rebecca Brooks must have something 'up her sleeve' for not having been sacked by News Corp. She's not that attractive and pretty inarticulate having just listened to an undercover tape of her address to NotW staff!

The meeting Brooks had with NOTW employees was recorded and is available on the Sky website.

From this it appears she is saying there will be more and worse revelations to come and that these were the reason why the plug was pulled on the paper.

In the meantime Renault are the first major advertiser to pull the plug on all advertising with Murdoch Group newspapers.

yes, and many journalists think that hacking went on elsewhere too...but sometimes it may even

be in the public interest as it were

the unattractive truth is that whatever we think about rebbekha undercover or under the covers,

news international and the trillion dollar murdoch empire pay little tax because the holding firms

are registered offshore in various tax havens...is that "ethical"?

this vast hacking sensation is classically puritanical and overlooks the really significant:

the murdoch empire leaves paying taxes to the rest of us and politicians are in its thrall

by all means investigate the hacking, and especially any police paid for information,

but per-leeeez spare us the sanctimonious xxxxxxxt currently dominating the uk media

I caught "any questions" on bbc radio 4 last night (bbc radio is freely available online)

and all the show was devoted to this scandal replete with its flame-haired sorceress,

...leaving me perilously close to projectile-vomiting

meanwile there is a new series of "homes from hell" for those with itv1, on 12 july at

9pm bst, fgeaturing a villa in cyprus that's now become a crumbling wreck...

...I now look forward to thesunonsunday's future most original headline "gotcha!"

all about awful gary robb's forced return to the island to face a nicosia kangaroo court

At least have the decency to say whether it is the ROC or the TRNC or do you not know?

AJ.... the programme is not stating which part it just says... the British couple in Andalucia who tried to rebuild their damaged homes after the foundations were washed away by heavy rainfall, the local eccentric in Southend who built a ranch in his back garden with DIY sheds and log cabins, and a retired couple who bought a bargain villa in Cyprus which turned out to be a crumbling ruin....could be either from this statement.

So Murdoch has now been seen to take the decisive action of closing the Screws of the World. Why do I not detect any sense of shame, or compassion towards the victims both on the end of the illegal activities and the many within who will be shown to be innocent but are now jobless ? I suspect that Murdoch is on a damage limitation exercise reorganising the intricate corporate status of the companies within his business empire in an attempt to frustrate the chances of the numerous aggrieved winning any financial compensation from a legal entity which has expired.

Speculation is that News Corp is going to ditch all UK connections but I can't work out the share price rise and fall variation between New York & London.

The Murdoch's Snr & Jnr have been summoned to appear before Parliament having declined an invitation to do so. Have they not got a boat off the Caribbean which they can jump off and do the decent thing!

I really cannot see what all the excitement is about MI5 MI6 CIA Special Branch and many other agencies are tapping phones all of the time.

They even put listening devices into cars and listen for months and months on end, then when they wish to take the illegal bug out of the car, they send out a traffic car to stop the car and nick the driver on some stupid charge,of course they will also remove your car for you and while they are at it they remove the intrusive listening device.

Then you get a sorry, mistaken identity, your free to go now.

Rebekah (Rebecca?) Brooks has just been arrested and is now not able to give evidence to Parliament on Tuesday to give any knowledge of the involvement of NotW with payments to the Police.

Who's protecting whom, another cover up?!

Sir Paul Stephenson (Head of the Met.) resigns on speculation that too many senior Metropolitan Police are too involved with the NotW and imminent revelations to make his position untenable.

More on the lines of the three Musketeers and you may play the d'Artagnan role!
