I was reading on a site that if you go to Turkey mainland you must have 6 months left on a UK passport otherwise you cannot enter. When I come out for New Year I will have 5 1/2 months left on my UK passport (expires June 09). Is this the same for Northern Cyprus? should I be rushing to get a new passport?

Thanks anyone who can help me on this.

Why not do the deed now... give yourself a break. You can fast track it... go to the UK Passport website

Most countries will not allow you in unless you have at least 6 months left

Apply for a new passport, they will give you up to 9 months extra on it. So if you apply now you will get 10 years & 7 months. At the moment passports are taking less than two weeks to come through.

Definitely get it now and save yourself the stress and worry. As the Wicks said, you will be given the extra back on top of the 10 years.

I agree with the advice to get a new passport but I did come to Cyprus with 5 months on my old passport earlier this year.

You never know which law will be enforced, one day it's ok, the next day it's not, so better be safe than sorry. I would renew it now.

I went back to the UK and came back here with 5 months on my passport and it was ok, but it could be a case of who you get on the day.

That's why you sort it now and don't leave it to chance... you might miss your return flight!

As a tour operator we always ask about passports and travel insurance - never leave these things to chance.

Because we live here I renewed my passport in Cyprus last year which was quite easy. Though if you do this you must take your old passport with you when you leave the island as immigration have no record on their computers of your new passport number. Without this you are told that ---your paperwork is NOT in order---- and you cannot travel.

When iot gets to 6 months always best to renew regardless then if you book a late bargain or whatever it is current.

As they add on remaining time to new passport why leave until last minute. Never know you may also beat a price increase in the budget!!

I got a new passport about two months ago. I got it here without any problems, but i do need to take both passports everytime i cross the border, having said that i went across the border with an out of date passport and nobody noticed.

If your old passport has the temp res stamp and the new passport has none and you get the wrong immigration offical who knows as much english as you know turkish, then you may be driving back from Ercan rather quickly for your old passport, hoping you dont miss your flight.
