Before moving our furniture in to our villa we want to clean it throughout and spray with very good insect repellant the day before (Must kill sandfly etc). Also want to spray the garden and trees (Different spray) ? Can you buy a large spray container down tin pot alley and the mix ?

Two things.... 1. Sandfly are notoriously difficult to kill..successfully 2. What you plan sounds a bit drastic I would advise you to buy a couple of tins on the SERTEX spray in the white and orange tins with a directional nozzle from Lemar. Spray all around the perimeter of the rooms and windows... It lasts up to 3 months and kills just about anything on contact... It does not smell awful and it really works....

You should be able to buy spray containers at some Yapi markets, Green Garden Centre sell them but they can be pricey there. There is Immap yapi at tinpan alley which have good stocks of most things and are very helpful and speak english. I agree with others, a good insecticide is quite sufficient.

Hi Groucho, agree with your comments but if I don,t spray ceilings and every nook and cranny you can be sure one bug or mossie will be hiding there and we get eaten alive (We take garlic tablets, the blue avon rub on spray) you name it, the blighters love us !! P.S thought pikey would come up with an answer !

Unfortunatley it is a fact of life living here you will see all sorts of critters in and out your house no matter what you spray. The only things that will suffer doing what you want to do is your selves. Only spray we use is off the shelf in supermarkets to spray before bed in height of summer to try to keep sand flies and mossies down. Plus other half has a fly net over the bed over summer. As for garden, never seen anyone spray out there!! Sorry but that is life in TRNC and you either get used to it or lead a quite miserable existence probably killing your self with all those chemicals.

Would strongly recommend you get Frog Pest Control in to spray the whole house and garden. We have this done once a year and it really works. This year we only paid £50 to have inside and out done. You don't get any smell and it is safe for animals (not pests though!!) Frog Pest Control Bedrettin Demirel Cad. No 15, Kat 3, Girne, TRNC 0392 815 5756; 0392 815 6623

Yes there were less mozzies this year.... but that is no surprise seeing that they need stagnant water to go through the larval stage in. Let's face it the available surface area of water must have shrunk with the drought we've had.

I wouldn't use any insecticide to kill off sandflies and mozzys - I know the manufacturer says they are safe, but if they are that safe why do they tell you not to swallow them or allow skin contact? Because they are not safe, before using one enter the active ingredient into Google together with "side effects" and I don't think you would want to use it. Don't think that because you can't smell it that it's not there either, it is. Stick to Zappers, Sonics, Avon, Garlic, Mozzy nets.

Hi Maggie&Bernie Mozzies & sandflies seem to be away. Had a few bites last week, but nothing since. Think you should be OK now. It's getting cooler at night. Enjoy your visit. Navek http://www.nigelheasman.com/wview/img/Current_Plus.htm

Part holiday, part builders clean but lovely Newlad ! Buy the way cleaned villa and then sprayed every room closing door behind me and will not be back for months, so we did not inhale toxic. But know what you are saying, even when we are there we spray last thing before we go out at night and return 4-5 hours later.
