I understand if it it is 1 or2 Kurush they don`t have the change but if it is 5 kurush or more should they not give the change.

I know it doesn`t break the bank but doesn`t take long to work out how much they make at the end of a working day.

On trips to US I noticed lots of shops & gas stations etc had a dish on the counter full of 'pennies' a little notice usually said "have a penny on us!" or something like that. If you got a couple of tiny coins in your change you chucked it in the dish,,,,,if you were a few short you helped yourself!

I'm no mathematician but there are 100 kurus to 1 lira - who on earth would want a purse/pocket full of the pesky things!

If they started the dish idea it could be emptied out say, monthly, and the proceeds donated to charity - or would it always be empty? I must admit to never living in a place with so many 'Penny Pinchers' !

Now watch the fun start.....................................................................

I thought it might be common knowledge that when the girl tills up @ the end of her shift, whatever her till is down or up,its hers to sort out,so if her till is down, she has to make it up,but if its up,that is hers.

Sort of tips maybe

Thanks for the 3 Kurus!!

I shop there and often find myself "up" as well as "down" a few Kurus...swings and round-abouts!

Subway in the UK had it right. A clear plastic charity box on the counter so if you have a few pennies in change, i.e. the good old British pricing of £1.99 etc............

Think McDonald had the same thing.

But nice to be given the choice..............

Too right! Who wants the pesky Kurus, they're no good to us and we don't spend them, they just linger in the bottom of purses/pockets and never get spent. The girls in the supermarkets get paid little enough, and to have their wages docked, if the til is down is nothing short of outrageous.

As a frequent flyer on BA, around the world, we are asked to donate to some third world charity with our "useless change"??? Many flyers hoodwinked into giving foreign currency because they think they will never go back to that country, rather give my "useless kurus" to boost the economy in TRNC

hardly worth making the fuss as the change is almost worthless anyway.

Doesn't really bother me, A few Kuresh won't change anyones life.

I also find as someone else pointed out, that it really is swings and roundabouts, I often gain it back the other way.

I bet if you where in the UK you would chuck in a few pence for some sunshine and freedom,, and a bit less crime. I know I would.

A simple solution is to pay by credit/debit card. Then you're charged exactly what it says on the till and at the end of the month you pay your credit card bill and you pay exactly what you've been charged for the month. Therefore no loose change, no kurus missing and no invisible profits for the retailers. By the way also payong by debit/credit card you get you're own back as they pay 1% to 3% on all transactions so they only receive 97% to 99% of what you pay.

1 kurus is nearly one old penny

look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves.

Think it’s rather unfair to just pick on Lemar, all the big boys do it. Public services are the worse electric water I now round up as I noticed I could be down over 120tl a year if I paid all my customers bills separately and had a receipt for the correct amount. Msg 2 'Penny Pinchers’ but what about the people who check xe.com and then query the rate exchange! Its called human nature - nobody minds tipping but when it’s just taken you feel done.

Still remember the day when the other half took all his sweets, he had collected in about 4 weeks just under five liras worth back to purchase cigarettes and told it was not legal tender
