early this morning we woke up and noticed that our dog was not sleeping next to our bed or the terrace - i knew at once something must have happened - we searched for her and found her badly injured in a field next to our home - we took her to pertev at once who was already waiting for us at his surgeory (thank you so much pertev) - "speedy" will probably survive but never be the same as she was before - after we came back home we tried to find out what had happened and could follow her tracks to the football ground (former lapta market) - last night between 1 and 2 o'clock we heard a car there driving a ralley (which often happens in the middle of the night) and we suppose tonight our dog was the victim of a chase because she was hit on her right and a second time on her left side ... and terribly injured - "speedy" is such a soft and friendly dog, how could anybody do this to her ??? i am deeply shocked

My little min-pin was attacked yesterday early evening by the same dog that had killed my little chiuhuahua few months ago in my garden.Lukylie enough she is not bad and will recover in few days. However, last time I went and spoke to them and asked them either to walk thier dog rather then leaving him chained all the time or put him in a cage. This time I shall take the matters into my own hands. As horrible as it mat be.

So, sorry, so sad.. how old is "Speedy"? My missing dog, Bob, when he was 18 months, got hit by a car and his leg was broken in two places, but with the aid of the wonderful vet, as all vets are wonderful out here, made a complete recovery. Hope the same for "Speedy"

I am very sorry to hear about your dog, but I am not at all surprised, I live near the football ground in Lapta (use to be market), I had a cat mowed down last year in a similar circumstance.

Unfortunately idiots are allowed to drive and until one of them hits a child nothing wil happen. They use the rest of the space around the football pitch as a race track nearly every night and there is no used complaining because ALL would be done but I like other people living around here are getting a bit sick fed up of it.

Don't give up

Get organised with some other neighbors and at least get their plate numbers etc.

These type of people are usually total cowards when confronted.

Get the newspapers to publish your story and the vehicle details

BOTH ENGLISH AND TURKISH READING PAPERS

TELL THE POLICE THAT YOU ARE GOING TO THE PAPER ........

to bill and tatum1 - police know exactly whats going on around the football ground and never ever did anything

but what can you expect?? we get fined for a dirty plate number and all the stupid racers are still on the roads all over the island, causing one horrible accident after the other - its in the newspapers (turkish and english) nearly every day

Language like that is not acceptable on this board as it is a family board.

AJ only certain people are picked up for naughties on here. Favourites and locals can do what they like, say what they like, threaten people, call for bannings, start threads about other members etc etc. They know and you know it as well.

Spike

I do not care what your attitude toward this board is, all I care about is the use of swear words on this board.

It does not need to happen and it just goes to show the apparent education of some posters on this board that feel the need to make their feelings known by using such language.

A couple of pounds of nails and tacks scattered around where they are "rallying" would probably put a stop to it

I do not like swearing either

that is why I do not own a television

and why I refuse to watch films

going out in public is also a problem

My neighbours dog, who thinks she is ours, lives a very dangerous life. She roams, which would be no problem if everyone was nice. They are not. Tamarly regularly steals the Turkish workers lunch bags on a site just below us and I think it is only a question of tim before they catch her and heaven only knows what will happen. She is beautiful, placid and so loving but that will count for nothing. So who is to blame?

I hope speedy gets well quickly.

Wishing speedy a quick recovery, cant you make a few spike boards up, that can be removed a bit like the stingers that the police use? something needs to be done to stop these sorry excuses for human beings doing this to the poor animals, maybe all the ex.pat animal lovers could get together and start up a charity like the R.S.P.C.A, with the ability to bring these thugs to justice, a few heavy fines would make them think twice. or maybe a rock through a windscreen or two?!!.

yippiieeh, speedy is "back on earth" - she took a few exercises today how to move on three legs - we are so glad

again a big thank you, dankeschön, çok teşekkür ederiz to pertev, who did a fantastic job

our thoughts are with all of you who are missing beloved pets - inşallah you will get them back one day in good health

msg 21 we always ask our workmen to hang their lunch bags up in a tree - problem solved

next step will be to work out what we can do against the racers

it seems there are too many people letting their dogs wander around, and when they get lost or injured they start to moan, perhaps I am being to observant or pedantic!!

I only just learned about what Speedy experienced she is a lovely 13 year old who is very friendly to everone and nearly daily would stop by our home to visit our dog Champ and enjoy a treat. Local police know about what happens late at night by this group of idiots racing cars and causing terror along this road and at the sports grounds . . . To remember , , , you are living in Cyprus and the locals all know eachother and related thus enforcement of any law is un-likely just a pity innocent animals end up as victims. Some night they will end up killing someone then perhaps the police will take their jobs serious. We would have loved to coutinue living in Lapta but, realized laws will never be enforced. We wish Speedy a fully recovery and sad knowing she will have lost freedom to venture out and about as long as these drunk sick monsters are allowed to be on the road. It is not right to point fingers but the Turks workers across from our house often time are involved.

True many dogs do wander about we would not allow our to do so however or many Cyprus dogs this is their life style and they would be soooooooooooo unhappy not to do so that is part of the beauty of living in N Cyprus. Accidents do happen but I've found most Cy dogs are street wise and in this case it was NOT an accident. Just mean cruel idiots who show no recpect for any thing except themselves. knowing Speedy I can assure you she would have never been accidentlly hit by a vehicle she was ran down by a very sick person just for kicks.
