Hello all, thanks for welcoming me on your website.

I wonder if you can help - I am co-editing the Cricket Round the World section of Wisden Cricketers' Almanack 2012, and am interested in a cricket match played in Northern Cyprus in May 2010.

The link below is the match report

http://living-in-northern-cyprus.com/review/2010/05/cricket-match/

I wondered if anyone on this forum had been involved in the game, had played any other cricket in Northern Cyprus, or was interested in doing so again?

We'd be delighted to find out if this was or wasn't the first cricket match played in Northern Cyprus, certainly since 1974, or possibly before.

It seems as though the match was well received, and there is a Pakistani presence on the island too, so wondered if there was a prospect of more cricket, or of a game against a southern team (I don't know if that's feasible) or a team from Turkey?

Any information would be gratefully received,

Best wishes,

James Coyne

Hi James, Yep i played in the game last year,it was good fun even though the expats had a good hiding,it was me who was in the picture in cyprus today having my stumps knocked over.

Brian at cyprus today did most of the organising,i spoke to him a couple of months ago about whether there would be another game this year but he said he was just too busy to do it.

Apparently the owners of the ground wouldnt allow a roller on the rugby pitch,so you can imagine what it was like trying to bat on!On a length along the ground then next ball same length nearly takes your head off, also the pakistanni bowlers were a bit tasty and rumour had it they drafted in a few from the university! well thats our excuse anyway!!

There was lots of people who watched it,stands were quite full and the cup was presented by N.Cyprus's oldest resident! I play cricket in the cornwall league as i only go over for holidays.

regards Sporty
