Help ! from reading all your posts i gather the best internet connection available at moment is the 3G modem!! not that we are avid TV fans but would like to see the occasional bad weather report on BBC now and then but cant think of having a 4m dish !! also not to bothered about football cos can go to the bars for the atmosphere on special match occasions ! so a system that would deliver a limited amount of UK channels would suffice any polite suggestions please thanks

I have digiturk, basic package I think, BBC Prime (eastenders etc) BBC World (news) and some film channels & kids stuff. They have an offer on just now I think it was about 40YTL for box, dish & set up then I think it's about 30 YTL a month (you need to check as I'm in UK just now and don't have paperwork with me) Went in the shop in Girne on a monday and they came & set dish up Wed 1pm - better service than Sky in UK!

Oh almost forgot - Broadband - I DON'T recommend Extend! Ordered it over six weeks ago and still waiting when I had to come back to UK - maybe they'll have got their act together by the time I get back in Dec!

hi snakes,

if you have an internet connection then the bbc website

has tons of programmes to view online, and itv etc do some too

to receive bbc prime (encoded) and bbc world (free) you need

a one-off installation and a 90cm dish at most

choose nilesat which has a few free film and news services

in english as well, originating from the gulf states

another sender is hotbird 6 at 13 deg east bbc as above plus euros

firm like tek-tan can set all this up for you, approx £120

with a basic freesat box or about £140 for a card-carrier...

you will need the latter for your £100 a year bbc prime subscription

which will be switched off if you don't use it for three months!

so carry it back to uk to use if you want to keep it going

finally if you are on skype and buy the nextstar ye2000 usb-equipped satbox

uk turk may be able to provide a talk through package to set up software to decode loads and loads of film channels, to be updated once or twice a year

Hi Becks. Digiturk have a shop in Girne. You can go in and sign up there & then and they speak english! Sorry I'm not sure of directions except it's on left as you head out of Girne going East. Sure someone on this board will give you better directions. The phone No is: 0392 8150821 Address: Ziya Rizki CD No 179 Girne.

I didn't think it was possible to watch BBC iPlayer online unless you have a UK IP address. Does anyone know any different or if there is a way to get around this? Every time I have tried it says you have to be a UK resident. I have even tried some of the online proxy IP address thingys but they don't work either!

You cant watch uk channels on the internet unless you have a UK IP address. You can purchase one for £7 per month from VPNUK

oops!

thanks for putting me right on the internet question debra

thought there must have been a catch somewhere!

it goes against the grain to pay for dozens of channels

on turksat we will never watch

we installed hotbird 6 for the wife's language channels

and nilesat for a smattering of other stuff

all the channels are listed on "lyngsat"...

to me a hundred quid for bbc prime is not worth it for hols

there are good reports on the board for erkan

and his code cracking setup

OR you could have someone in UK have an extra SKY box (say upstairs) costs around £10 per month then purchase SLINGBOX system, perfectly legal, from say Amazon at around £100, then set it up at the SLINGBOX in UK and on your computer here to watch everything that comes through on SKY. You need a decent broadband connection 149 tl per month from Extend and bob`s your uncle!!!!
