Does anyone know the amount of cigarettes and tobacco that can be brought from the North of Cyprus into the South of Cyprus as we had all 400 cigarettes and 500grms of tobacco confiscated.

We were considering buying a place in the North but not now, all for the sake of £74.00 worth.

It was a very embarrasing situation from the official on the South and we will recommend to all our friends and relatives not to go there.

There are more ameniable places to go.

We do know the allowances from the South to the UK.

Just making sure of our ground.

You can only take what might be considered enough to last you for your journey. There is no allowance but it seems that 20-40 is considered ok. Like anywhere it is best to check before hand but many have been caught out.

I think the answer is, what day of the week is it? Is Neptune rising in Saturn? Are the Greek customs in a good mood today?

bodrumbill, have I understood you correctly, you were considering buying a place here but now you have changed your mind because you can't take £74.00 worth of cigarettes to the South?

you are only allowed 2 x twenty cigarettes each 1litre of spirits each. We were told this in october at the border crossing in pyle. this was by a very well spoken customs officer with a cockney accent . Dont know if he was an english or greek man!

deecyprus,

An excellent point. The issue is with the authorities in RoC who I believe are not following Green Line rules. May be it would have been appropriate to check the customs regulations on this and other forums before you travelled.

Another point here is even if you flew from Ercan you would only be allowed to take 200 cigarettes and 1litre spirits back to UK.

I do hope you pass on the comments posted here to your friends and bear in mind that it is RoC they should be avoiding not our country as it is their regulations you have come foul of.
