Hi you may have seen I have a 10 tonne underground water tank that is leaking - all the water from this tank comes out of the top of the tank -

I am considering taking the top off the 10tonne tank - and dropping in sand - then putting an 8tonne tank inside the 10tonne tank - then putting sand all around the 8 tonne tank

the hole for the tank is

2.2m diameter

2.6m deep

new tank needs to fit in this

need price for supply and fit - thanks

You will only cure the problem tempory, you need to make sure that the bottom of the hole that you place the tank on is a concreate slab and also the hole is bricked up the sides, the reason you have a fracture in your tank is the movement of the surrounding soil.

I think you need to be sure what has caused the problem before you come up with a solution.

I have a hole in the ground - it is 2.6m deep and 2.2m wide - it is lined with plastic to make it even easier

I'd like a price for installation of a underground water tank in that hole - if you need to put reinforced concrete in the base then that is fine - as far as I am concerned sand compacted into the walls between the 'plastic lining' and the new tank is fine.

if there is a technical reason that this is will not work and a new 'hole' needs to be dug then I'd be interested to know what that reason is.

John W - not sure if I have enough life to research the why - suspect it was leaking since day 1 - was installed by the builders - probably the cheapest possible 10 tonne tank in the world

Well, having spent over five years here dealing with these issues I wouldn't want to come up with a solution before I had seen it and understood what the problem was caused by. I think one would want to understand why the previous tank split or was punctured. If there were rocks etc left in the hole which did the damage there is little point in putting in another tank till they are removed which would mean removing the old tank completely.

Does the person who put the tank in have any views on the subject? I know that is probably a really silly question but it has to be asked.

no rocks - no visible holes - suspect it is a poor quality tank sitting on a poor quality base - having said that the base under the tank is certainly compacted - it has had 10 tonnes of water on it for considerable periods of time - I want a new base of up to 200mm of concrete then 100mm of sand on that - then to sit in a new tank and do the sides in in sand as well - quite frankly if a stone gets through that then that stone deserves to puncture my new tank.

Happy to call - but what I am after is a ball park figure for the work - nothing to the penny but a guide
