Does anyone have any experience of bringing animals into Northern Cyprus. Im thinking of bringing my horse over and know a transporter going to the South side very soon. Would it be hard to get the horse over the border from the South to the North. Also thinking of bringing in my dog that way as well direct to Larnaca. I dont know who I would contact for information. Any help appreciated.. Thanks.

blondie

if you are thinking of living in north cyprus then there is no way you can bring a dog thru the south/north borders not alone a horse

not i know or know someone who bought a horse over but i can imagine it would be a lot off hassle and costly on the other hand briniging the dog into ercan is not a prob all you will need is the dog to have pet passport - be chipped - up to date injections - and have a import licence

turkish airlines and cyprus turkish airlines both carry dogs in as excees baggage you can contact cyprus airlines via e-mail bekam.aydinoz@kthy.aero

or you can contact margret ray who deals with this all the time she will defo be able to help margdaveray@yahoo.com

good luck

Hi Blondie,

I would not consider bringing a horse from the UK to Cyprus. I think that it would find it very difficult to adapt to the climate. It would not be able to graze and would need hay(if available) and supplementary feeding the whole time. You would also be limited in when you could ride. In the summer there would be no way you could ride during the day. It is just too hot.

Why do you not have a word first with the Catalkoy riding School which is English owned. They could perhaps advise.

Hi Blondi,

if you drop us an email I am sure my wife can help you out with information which maybe useful. She looked into this quite a lot when our horses were going to come. There are ways horses can come across the border, we have one in Esentepe which came from the South. Don't recall the full details of how but I am sure it wasn't a case of galloping across the border at Midnight!!

Try this website for information, they are very helpful
