Cyprus independence day?

August 16, 1960: On the stroke of midnight, Cyprus gains its independence from Britain after almost a century of rule by the British empire--and centuries of rule by previous empires, including the Ottoman, Byzantine, Roman, Greek, Egyptian, Persians, Assyrian and Phoenician. Britain had unilaterally annexed the island in 1904

and also

On 16 August 1960, Cyprus attained independence after the Zürich and London Agreement between the United Kingdom, Greece and Turkey. The UK retained the two Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia while government posts and public offices were allocated by ethnic quotas giving the minority Turkish Cypriots a permanent veto, 30% in parliament and administration, and granting the three mother-states guarantor rights.

philbailey;

There was never a "Greek Empire" that rıuled or possessed Cyprus! Byzantium did, but that was not a Greek empire either!

The first Empire to rule Cyprus were Hitites - an empire that covered most of today's Turkey!

philbailey;

Here we go again! What is it with people in this forum? "philbailey", did I address you or challenge you at all in msg 11? I felt it appropriate to pass on some more info about the chronology of Cyprus! Why on earth did you think I was in any way seeking an argument or addressing you? I was just about to post a full chronology ranging from 6000 BC to today, showing who ruled over Cyprus when, but upon reading your response and not wishing to enter another meaningless argument at this time of the night, it went straight into the recycle bin!

It obviously was too much to understand for one of us, but it certainly was not me!

Judging by the conflicting times of the Air display, the fireworks should be sometime between Dusk and Dawn, hope this helps..................

For goodness sake!

How difficult is it?

Tomorrow is peace and freedom day.

It celebrates the intervention in 1974.

Nothing to do with independance.
