New Road construction is it now passable?

Has anyone been to the Pyla border crossing recently via Esentepe mountain Road (throuh mountans just Esentepe) and the military airport road where they are widening it. A couple weeks ago that road was closed is it now passable??

Hi Redwine,

Open, just used it this afternoon.



The road over the mountains from Tatlisu to the Petrol station appears to be completely re-laid,

white lined, with what appears to be a cycle lane (both sides) & sign posts with gradient % too!



There's a new roundabout at the Petrol Station end, and part of the new road has been laid, but not open.



You still have to use the old route at the moment,

which includes driving for app 6km on the gravel laid for the new road.

Don't wash your car before this journey, I did :-(

as it will need washed by the time you get back.



All the road laying machinery was parked up today, but ready to start when the time comes

A reasonable detour is - from the K-pet garage/new roundabout head west (beware of camera past the mosque) through Gekitkale to Sutluce, bear left and go through village heading south for Nergesi. Follow signs for F'gusta/Lefkosa and cross over the dual carraigeway. Straight over heading for Ionu, through village and follow signs for Beyarmudu. Adds about 10 mins to old road journey time. Direction signs are not great but they are sufficient.
