TRNCVaughan is spot on! There appear to be no statistics, but these relationships are 'guesstimated' to have a 99.9% failure rate!

Some of you amaze me with your commets, I have A TC husband and we have been together for 15 years now, he does not own me! I do my own thing go out with my friends, travel with mates and have a pretty fantastic life with a man who loves me and repects me. When my husband and I got together we were both living in Turkey I had at least 15 friends who were dating Turkish guys at least 10 went on to marry them, over the years only 2 couples have split and the rest all seem happy. Wonder what the satistics are in the western world, I know it can't be said for my friends in NZ. As for why you don't see TC women with English men? maybe because they don't want English men. But just to correct that I have at least 3 Tc women friends who are married to English speaking men.

There are a very few, but these are mostly London Turkish Cypriots, who are a little more open minded and not ruled by their families to the same extent.

Vaughan My husband has never lived in the Uk he grew up here with very a traditional TC family who have welcomed me in to their family like I was their daughter. The only time he has ever lived out of Cyprus was when we went to stay in NZ for 8 months. I find the London TC men to the worst when it comes to old fashion ways of thinking.

kiwikid, I was referring to LTC women, not men, in msg 14. I get the impression that respectable TC women are expected to marry and produce grand children with suitable TC men, asap. A family might take a dim view of a daughter going out with a Gavur, who she might be discouraged from considering marrying. TC boys with English girls may just be seen as sowing their wild oats by the same family, knowing that he will eventually marry a nice TC girl.

Post 9. "..It always amazes me how keen some are to publicaly display their own prejudices." Hello erolz, It's a public forum and this kind of free opinion is quite normal. Everybody has prejudices or is biased in some way or another, so it can be frustrating taking internet opinions personally. Different strokes for different folks. IMO if someone wants to marry another from a substantially different culture and they've considered all the angles, then that's their decision. If it works good for them, if it doesn't they'll no doubt become part of the biased group! After all all's said & done; birds of a feather ...etc.

I had a turkish cypriot boyfriend once and i married him 32 years ago,he doesnt rule me,neither does his family,we respect each other and he is my best friend.i think it depends on the couple if it works or not.but i will say that a 50-60 yr old british woman going out with a 20 odd year old is asking for trouble and seems to go on more in Turkey

He is the best thing that's ever happened to me, of course we have our ups and downs but so dose every couple, the cultural differences are good I think, just hope I'm posting in 22 years saying we still together |

Why would a 50-60 yr old British woman go out with a 20 odd year old Turkish man? Answer - obvious. Why would a 20 year old Turkish man go out with a 50-60 year old British woman? Answer - Sex, money, passport? Why would a 20 yr old Cypriot woman go out with a 50-60 year old British man? Answer - it doesn't happen. Question - Why the difference?

TRNCVaughan; 20 year old Cypriot women would not go out with a 50-60 year old any nationality! They have a lot of randy, good looking, sun tanned, shapely bodied boys to be content with (and a lot of them do have the pocket money to do what they like) Also, Leaving Cyprus where they can earn more money is not exactly on top of their priority lists - in any case they can travel to UK whenever they like, unlike the main-land Turks who have strict visa restrictions imposed on them... By the way, are we really talking about "HAVEN" or "heaven" ?

Post 15 I have no doubts I can assure you of that. Its the only thing I have ever been sure of, was just curious of other people's opinions, however, the only opinion that really matters to me is that of my soon to be husband ;)

NN, of cause the Mags and newspapers are going to pick up on stories about Turkish love rats, who would wants to read a story about happy couples!, sob stories sell mags and newspapers. Unfortunately you only ever hear of the bad relationships not the the happy ending ones.

msg 24, Wouldn't it be equally true to say that they (the 20 year old Turkish boys who go out with 50-60 year old British women) have a lot of randy, good looking, sun tanned, shapely bodied girls to be content with (and a lot of them do have the pocket money to do what they like). Obviously not.

Post 15 "I have no doubts I can assure you of that. Its the only thing I have ever been sure of, was just curious of other people's opinions, however, the only opinion that really matters to me is that of my soon to be husband ;)" Exactly - so one wonders why you would bother to start the thread in the first place. The only two people who know what you and he are like, are you and he!!!!!!!! So there isn't a person on this planet who can say if you two are suited or not, any more than if any other couple are suited - provenance - culture, gender, aesthetics et cetera, are meaningless, it is the disposition of the two involved, and if they gel as a couple - no more or less.......

"A (TC) family might take a dim view of a daughter going out with a Gavur" (msg 17) I am soon to marry to a TC woman, 5 years younger than me, and I couldn't wish for a more easy-going future father-in-law. It is true that both he and his recently deceased wife have wanted us to marry for the last six months, but I felt no more pressure put on us than, say, a British father would have done. My impression is that in general, the TC's atttude to such things is very similar to that of the GCs. On the subject of being "owned" (msg 6), I would say that Turkish (as opposed to TC) men do tend to be slightly more "over-protective" of their partners. Many's the time during my 15 years in Istanbul, I saw men escorting their partners to toilets and waiting for them outside the door ! Maybe though Turkish men are just more gentlemanly than us ...
