I just had an email from the company which installed our sanitation system. We'd had a few problems, so decided not to renew.

"I am now cancelling your maintenance contract as from today. You are, of course, completely at liberty not to have a Service Maintenance Contract and I attach a copy of our cancellation contract for your information. We will have to notify the Ministry and they will have to carry out the water testing. There cost per visit is £156.00. This breaks down as £97.00 plus tax for the water test and the balance for wages and travel of the

Ministry’s personnel. They are at liberty to test as many times as they feel fit. If they test and find the system not up to required standards they will instruct the necessary people to correct this at a cost to you. I have

taken this e-mail as your intent to cancel this policy and that you no longer require a maintenance contract. This will be cancelled and we will then inform the ministry"

Is this true? What should

You are a young man, imaginea much older single lady, getting such a letter !!!

I think you should publish the name of the company on here, there may be other members with similar letters.

And also show the letter to your local council to show the charges !!!

I don't want to start a battle by naming names, as if this is true I may have no option but to renew. However, I'd like to know what my options are - I can't be the first person to face this.

Contact the Ministry yourself and ask them first.

Take no notice of it. It is absolute rubbish. They do this sort of thing frequently to people to try to scare them into spending money . Just ignore them, you don't need them to do anything. This is just the sort of nonsense this company gets up to.

Name them on here and let's see them come and justify themselves. That should be funny.

Alex msg 1 - Being a simpleton and living mainly in the UK forgive me for asking which ministry they intend to inform. Is there a ministry of cess pits we have cess pits both here and in the TRNC and I'm not aware of one.

If your local council has responsibility for sanitation as Mike said in msg 6 go to the Belediye and ask them for advice and help.

If you have a list of complaints and problems revert to the company and then if not resolved do not let them strong-arm you but seek help elsewhere. (Let us know on Cyprus44 what the problems were and the result.)

I have sent the email below.

"Dear ******,

Could you also let me know which Ministry carries out the water testing work you refer to please?

Many thanks,

(Beekeeper).

I'll let you know what the answer is as soon as I know.

MikeLapta. Spot on. On reading this thread the first thing I thought was, how can you help someone who wont help others? i.e. Beekeper, message 1. Name this outfit as it is actually necessary for others to know, in case they fall foul.

There is no harm whatsoever in naming them, you are helping us, please reconsider.

Dear MickyFinn,

I don't think you are being fair to me. I currently have a maintainance contract with this company, and may or may not need to renew. If the situation is as they say it is, then they are simply acting within the law - and "naming and shaming" them would thus be unfair. It would also make it very difficult for me to ask them to renew.

If this turns out to be complete rubbish, I'll name them. But currently, I'm currently just trying to establish the facts.

Reasonable?

The Beekeeper.

You could speak to John at Cyprus Solutions, who have fitted many of these sewage systems. He would know the regs on them and may be able to offer you a better deal for maintenance.

Does it matter whether its above board or not?

This company is trying to strongarm you into a new contract. If what they are saying is correct then their customer services should not try the hard sell with you, but explain the facts.

I am sure whether it is genuine or not (most certainly not) then others here will not deal with them.

We dont mind our responsibilities being explained to us, but we dont want to be nailed to the wall at the same time.

Lets hope no one else signs a maintainance agreement with this company, before you name and shame them!

I've had time to reflect on your problem, and I now have other thoughts.

Did you sign this contract?

Is it a "timed"contract?i.e does it have an end date?

Does it say on the contract "penalties" for an early finish?

As No1 says,go to the Ministry and show them.

If this system uses chemicals to dissolve the waste then it should be monitored as it may get into a nearby well. I assume it uses a chemical but please educate me on the system. If there are no chemicals involved then it is no different to any other system here which isn't monitored.

TRNC Vuaghan - thanks for this suggestion. I may well do this, depending on what I find out.

Mike - as always, thanks for your valuable advice and help. It was a one year contract, with an option to renew annually for five years at an ever increasing premium. And I may well ask the

Ministry, once the company has told me which ministry.

Hodgeliz, I don't think Nick meant any harm. It was only a slightly rude word, and quite funny, in context. And no, it wasn't the company that TRNC Vaughan named - but I state now, I am not going to be drawn further as to the identity of the company until my investigations are complete. Please don't name any more companies on this thread, as it's not fair to those who have nothing to do with this.

If you are so adamant about not naming this company, why oh why did you post the thread in the first place.

You have now opened up a hornets nest and people will want to know who they are (or not) dealing with. You have already put a slight on other companies.

Beekeeper. TRNCvaughans post makes perfect sense. Give them a call now and see what they say - before you do anything else.

Dear MickyFinn,

Please read my reply to you in message 14. I think pretty much everyone else understands what I'm trying to tell you.

I'm one of those old school journalists, who likes to collect the facts before making accusations - not shoot first then ask questions later.

Thanks, nonetheless, for your interest.

Funny how they do not mention which ministry. Ministry of sanitation? They must be insane. Just ignore it and they will go away.
