Last November I posted a long whinge about the rubbish service from the then Medikent Hospital in Lefkosa. It seems only reasonable today to report my latest experience.

As before I went for a CT Scan. My preferred hospital had problems with their scanner and the Near East University Hospital quoted a price much higher than anyone else.

I have to say the service today was excellent. From reception to the radiographer who actually took the images to the radiologist himself. The price was very fair and in fact some extra images were taken without charge! Well done to all of them. The hospital floors gleamed and cleaning went on during the several hours that I was there. What more can one ask for?

Hi Steve, what a shame you had a bad experience the firt time you visited.

My hubby had a very serious op. there, as have a few friends. all have found the service and quality

exceptional.

No waiting list, in.. operation...out......

What more can I say?

I've never used Medikent Hospital but have had dealings, in the past, with Cyprus Life who I believe have taken over Medikent. Was not at all impressed by Cyprus Life as lack of English speaking staff proved to be a real problem there, particularly in the CT department where nobody spoke English which was, frankly, ridiculous. I have found Letam to be excellent for diagnostics - very professional and reports in English if required. I have recently used Near East Hospital and have been impressed by their set up - very quick, on time appointments, high standards and a lot of high tech equipment. I can't offer much comment on price comparisons but I didn't feel that Near East was terribly costly - their price for seeing a consultant was certainly less than Girne Private Hospital.

Msg 3. I have just had a reason to use Cyprus Life hospital and cannot praise it enough. I had no problem with the lack of English speaking staff as because I have decided to live in this country I decided I would learn to communicate with the people here, I learnt Turkish!

I have been to both Cyprus life for a full check up and Medikent where my husband had a triple by-pass. Both hospitals were brilliant and we had no complaints at all. The staff were very helpful and friendly and for the sake of staying healthy, the prices were reasonable. You cant put a price on life.

Can't put a price on life! so true, but unfortunatley some people have got themselves hopelessly into debt when having treatment and one thing after another crops up and the relatives of the patient are told 'we are here to save lives'. Personally i think it is VITAL that one knows what one's limit is before embarking on treatment. and that is one of the reasons why some are running back to U.K because they know they don't have enough financial backing for really serious treatment here.

It is a dilemna that more and more people are facing, so unfortunatley some people can't afford to put a price on life. We are very fortunate to have some really good hospitals here and they do a grand job - but as the years progress and inflation bites into income, for some folk the price just is NOT right!

Message 4: Letam do diagnostics - x-rays, ultrasound, mammograms, CTs, MRIs etc etc. They have their MRI centre in Lefkosa, opposite the state hospital. They also have another place in Lefkosa for CTs and other stuff and a smaller facility in Girne for the basics. From my recent and ongoing experience of Near East (ENT specialist), I have been charged 70tl for a consultation but, when I return for checkups, I haven't been charged at all - these are apparently classed as 'control visits' and are free of charge.

Message 5: Well, good for you for learning Turkish but my point is that Cyprus Life have been touting for trade from the Brits (via BRS) for some years now and they surely don't realistically believe that all of these people speak Turkish do they? Especially the level of Turkish that would enable them to discuss possibly complex medical problems!

msge 4 Mrs Snakews;

There is a Letam office opposite the state hospital in Lefkosa but I prefer the office near Toros. Drive past Toros (on your left) and take the first left turn. First left again and park near the junction. Walk through a child's park area and you will find the Letam office in an apartment block on the other side of the road.

Their tel no; 2273147 2273614. They have an excellent radiologist Dr Sertac who speaks better English than many Brits. Helpful reception people and there is always someone with good English to help.

Their ct scanner was out of action last week waiting for parts from Turkey but should be ok soon. Their scan charges are the best for miles. I found the quote from NEU Hospital about a third more than anyone else. Why?
